Super Six Semi Venues - So Cal and Detroit?

Post  gomez1012 on Thu Feb 10, 2011 11:24 am

Ward vs Abraham 5/14
Source tells me that Ward-Abraham on May 14th is heading to the Home Depot Center( my favorite local venue) in Carson, Ca.

Froch vs Johnson 5/21
As it relates to Froch-Johnson, the Silverdome is still in play to host it, as are the CT casino's and even Vegas on May 21

Detroit. Because those damn Michigan folks can't get enough of Carl Froch and his awesome accent. Really, Detroit. How about just putting it somewhere that has alot of fight fans like California. Put a bunch of local kids on the undercard. 2 world class guys as the main event.

The owners of Silverdome must be real serious about fights there

I was under the impression that Ward was going to have to travel for his next fight. Fighting in Carson will be a hometown fight for him. On the other hand, if they didn't learn from the Bradley vs Alexander fight that Detroit ain't the place to be........

I dont see an issue with the Ward-Abe venue

Refresh my memory on the stipulated rules of the Super 6. I thought they were supposed to fight two at home each.

IIRC the semifinals and the final were contracted to be in America. The prelim fights were negotiable as far as I know. With 9 fights and 6 fighters, I expected 3 fighters to get 2 home fights and the others to get 1. Ward got his 2 home then another at home outside the tourney. Dirrell and Kessler both got 1 home fight before leaving the tourney. Froch and AA both got 1 home and 1 neutral. Glen and Allan fought in vegas which I guess is neutral for them. There was no 9th fight. Really the only fairer distribution is Ward-Green being at Sooner's house which I think would have done much worse in tickets and not changed the outcome.

Edited: I put Ward Abraham when I mean to put Ward-Green. I fixed it up.

Cool...thanks for that. I really think that Ward/Abraham would do huge numbers in Germany, but if Showtime wants the fights in the U.S., oh well.

yeah i edited my comment as froch-taylor took place in foxwoods. but foxwoods and mohegan sun are about half an hour from eachother. im going to foxwoods for the martinez fight and they just built the mgm grand last year so im looking forward to seeing it inside. but from watching fights at both casinos i have to say that mohegan sun is better, that's where gatti-ward took place.

You know what, if these fucking idiot promoters have that fight in Detriot, I hope 3 people show up.

Have the fight in Boston. Boston crowd would love a guy like Froch. And it's got a huge local media outlet that'd love his big mouth trash talk
