Alabama issued its first boxing license to Deontay Wilder

Post  GrantZilla on Thu Jan 13, 2011 11:35 pm

The Alabama Athletic Commission has issued the first professional boxing license to Olympic medalist and Tuscaloosa native Deontay Wilder, and set the state's first sanctioned boxing match for February 19th at Shelton State Community College. This will be the first time since 2005 that the state of Alabama will experience professional boxing.

Alabama was one of four states that did not have commission, and so other states would come into Alabama to host boxing events. In 2005, rules changed and Alabama's boxers have been on the road fighting ever since. After years of petitioning and writing letters, boxers like Wilder are finally able to compete on their own turf.

Details for the February 19th match are still being ironed out. Wilder is expected to headline the event. Wilder's coach and promoter, Jay Deas, says Wilder's fights are typically very family-friendly. Tickets are expected to go onsale early next week.

I have to give major props to Wilder. Him and his handlers have been vigilant to get boxing in his home of Alabama, so he could fight there.

Good to hear

What the heck do they mean by "familiy-friendly"? Ring card girls in sweaters? Muzak versions of entrance music? Banning spitting, bleeding and swearing?

Or is he just making a comment that Wilder can't punch? Laughing

lol! lol I was thinking the same thing. I can't think how two men trying to separate each other from consciousness could be called family friendly LOL.

Maybe you are right and he was trying to say Wilder is a Calslappy shoe shiner What a Face

Wilder can punch. About all he can do at this point. He's got a brutal right hand.
