Katsidis's trainer keeps asking for an Amir Khan fight
Brendon Smith, the trainer and manager of Michael Katsidis, has thrown his man’s name out as a possible opponent for WBA light-welterweight boss Amir Khan. Katsidis is coming off a crushing defeat at the hands of Juan Manuel Marquez yet Smith has claimed that Michael was not at his best on the night and would be a different fighter for a UK showdown against Khan.
“I believe that [Katsidis-Khan] is a fight that would absolutely fill anywhere in England, and that's a fight that would be watched all over the world, and it makes a great fight. Michael is two out of two in England, and whether Amir Khan takes that into consideration and whether he wants to try and square up for the Pommies,” revealed Smith when speaking to the Associated Press.
Katsidis went into the Marquez fight grieving the loss of his brother Stathi; Smith believes that Michael, though brave in defeat, was not at his best against the Mexican legend. Khan is coming off his biggest win to date, that sensational points win over Argentine hard man Rene Marcos Maidana. Some believe that Katsidis will provide Khan with another gut check.
Michael, however, has never been hard to hit, he would be physically smaller than Khan if he stepped up to 140lb and has lost all of his top-level fights. ‘The Great’ is unlikely to pull off a win over Khan but would be a decent and recognisable opponent should Amir’s next fight take place here in the UK.

Brenden Smith must enjoy watching Katsidis get busted up.

this is one of the dumbest ideas ever. Katsidis should have a nice long vacation, then come back with a relatively soft touch to get his confidence and then another HBO fight soon thereafter. Put him in with almost anyone at 135 not named Marquez and he not only is in an all action fight, but also wins.

this is foolish.at 140 he will take some beatings for sure..at 135 for the next year or two hes capable of beating everyone.if he fights at 4 times a year at 135 ill give his career 3 years at best then its downhill all the way.
no doubt the kahn fight in england will be a big event but ...

Katsidis will get taken apart in a Khan fight. it's not like Katsidis' name carries as much clout in the UK as his trainer may think either. People didn't even know who Kevin Mitchell was so it's not like it was shock of the century when he lost, tickets for the event sold well that night because of it's historical venue for London sport fans. Katsidis needs to be saved from himself, he's a warrior but getting repeatedly beaten up isn't good for anybody lol

Katsidis should fight Urbano Antillon and Marquez should fight Soto.

It sounds like they're trying to cash out Katsidis. There are plenty of good fights at 135 for him, plus, JMM is ready to retire soon, so that will put Katsidis' name near the top. This is a mistake. If he gets seriously hurt, they will sorely regret this decision. On the other side of the coin, how does this fight help Khan? Oh, nice, you fought another lightweight...way to pad the resume'....nah!!!

I think his team believe that one punch from Katsidis and Khan is done
Its an interesting fight, but Katsidis getting KO'd at 135 makes it a big risk

Well, he hit Marquez with his best shot & didn't KO him, so I doubt that's the motivation. No disrespect to Katsidis, but he's just not that skilled. Someone needs to teach him how to throw his right hand correctly. Khan would beat him to a pulp from the outside.gomez1012 wrote:flapanther2001 wrote:It sounds like they're trying to cash out Katsidis. Yep
Probably why he's got a good shot at landing this fight
Promoted by GBP and doesnt mind going to UK - KO'd Kevin Mitchell last year

I still don't see how this fight benefits Khan...GBP is not looking good.gomez1012 wrote:flapanther2001 wrote:

The only person who's asking for this is Brenden Smith, Golden Boy have no plans for it.
