Arum on Oscar and Schaefer; Floyd signing w/King closer than we think?

“There'll always can be fights [between Top Rank and GBP],” Arum told FanHouse.com’s Elie Seckbach. “But you have to understand, Richard Schaefer and Oscar de la Hoya defamed Manny Pacquiao.”

“Manny Pacquiao is dear to my heart, not because he's a great fighter and is very lucrative, that's true. But Manny Pacquiao is my friend, and anybody who defames my friend, I will treat as a piece of garbage,” said Arum.

Arum, meanwhile, said that if reports of Mayweather teaming up with Don King are true, then it will be good for the sport of boxing.

“If Floyd Mayweather signs with Don King, I think it will be a boon for boxing,” he said.

GBP currently has the promotional rights over Mayweather’s fights.

Arum believes it will be easier for him to negotiate for a Pacquiao-Mayweather superfight if the undefeated boxer signs up with King.

“It would make his promotion bigger that it already is, and I would certainly welcome Don's participation,” said Arum.
