Is SOG P4P #1?
I went into Saturday night thinking Bad Chad had all the chance in the world of exposing Ward as a very good but not great pugilist. Instead, Andre put on a clinic AGAIN, this time seeming to show more power as well. It was definitely notice served, not only in his division, but to all of boxing and with as good an exclamation point as could be expected.
So I will dare to say it: Andre Ward is pound for pound the best fighter in the world.
Between the Super Six and now this last fight, NO ONE has been as dominant over such a high caliber of competition over such a long period of time.
Hate him if you want to.
But give the guy his props.

Ward is the P4P king, Floyd wishes he he was that good. If Floyd was as great as he says he is or his fans think, he would have taken the same risks Andre has done at The same point of his own career. Ward by far is the better fighter physically, mentally, technically, offensively, defensively and way tougher.

I love this kid. He's as smart as it gets & even tougher. Sometimes, it's little things that you notice that tell you a lot about a fighter. For instance, during the Froch fight, Froch cracked Ward after the bell, solidly, in the jaw. Ward didn't flinch, just glared at Froch. Many fighters would've been hurt or knocked down, Ward shrugged it off. I knew at that moment, nothing Froch could do would affect Ward, nothing. Ward is getting better, this we know. Dawson, I believe, has peaked. We'll know more when he goes back to 175 defends his title. Because of longevity, I'd still have Floyd at #1 P4P, but I would move Ward up to #2, Manny at #3....

I'm a big fan of Floyd but the caliber of Ward's competition fight in and fight out is clearly better...maybe a whole lot better.
And it gets worse. You have these world class guys get dominated by Ward, with Andre making them look second rate or even amateurish...then these same world class guys go out there (sometimes the very next fight) against someone not named Andre Ward...and prove that they are indeed elite!
Ward owns Abraham; who just beat Stieglitz for a 168 lb title.
Ward owns Kessler; then Kessler clearly beats Froch.
Froch gets boatraced by Ward: then manhandles Bute.
And just this Saturday, Ward beats the man who beat Glencoe (at 175), Tarver and Hopkins...all twice! Beat the man who still holds the 175 lb title undisputed!
I don't think it is hard to have Ward #1 at all...

agreed with everything except Kessler clearly beating Froch. That aside, Kessler's performance against Froch and even Sooner's boy, showed he still has it.

Re: Is SOG P4P #1?
KoolKc I tried to tell you he would dominate Chad.
But hell yes he is the best right now. Pac, Floyd and Sergio to me have fallen off a bit and he is in his prime.

Re: Is SOG P4P #1?
i think that floyd is the only comparison at this point. manny for me is clearly behind floyd and ward. although we all forget, marquez actually beat pac, yet we still rank him over marquez even though marquez is still winning fights and has been winning fights even after every time marquez beat him.

The Ring has put him at # 3 behind Pac and Floyd who are # 2. # 1 still being vacant.
What a fucking joke

Yes you did, Sooner.
Lucky for me, boxing is one of the few things in life where you can be completely wrong and still enjoy the hell out of being so.
And it is clear that all the guys in front of Ward right now, Nonito included, have less impressive recent resumes than Andre.
The rankings can say whatever they want.
No way is there anyone out there right now P4P better than Ward.

Total punches landed:
Ward: 155
Dawson: 29
Has there ever been major fight between to top boxer that is this one sided? Wright vs. Trinidad maybe?

Re: Is SOG P4P #1?
for one, what do you mean by major fight? to me, wright vs tito wasnt at all a major fight since tito came out of retirement and wright was never a huge name. but hopkins vs tito was pretty one sided. i know that there have to be more but im not going to sit here at think about it.Shaun wrote:http://compuboxonline.com/compubox-stats-ward-ko-10-dawson/

Roach on SOG (from ESPN's live chat):
Ron (Baltimore)
Speaking of Ward, what did you think of his performance against Dawson?
Freddie Roach
(12:19 PM)
Great performance, might be the best fighter in the world today.

some very good fighters there. I think that all of us would agree that the 2010 versions of those fighters would definitely beat today's versions of the fighters.

I think he's #1 p4p. That doesn't mean he's better historically than guys he's ahead of, just better right now. I'm a huge fan and I constantly doubt him because I can't believe he's as good as he is. I thought Chad presented a lot of stylistic problems and Ward broke him down.
