Gary Shaw, the American promoter for IBF/WBA middleweight champion Daniel Geale (28-1, 15KOs), admits he was shocked when German superstar Felix Sturm (37-3-2, 16KOs) refused to have a rematch clause in their fight contract. On Saturday night at the Koenig Pilsener Arena in Oberhausen, Geale ended the long reign of Sturm with a twelve round split decision. It was the first loss for Sturm since 2006.
"We offered Sturm a rematch clause and he turned it down. That's how sure he was of beating Geale. I believe Geale is one of the most underrated fighters in boxing," Shaw told BoxingScene.com.
The WBA has ordered Geale, the super champion at middleweight, to face hard-puncher Gennady Golovkin (24-0, 21KOs), who holds the organization's "regular" title and also the IBO's version of the middleweight crown. According to the WBA, the fight has to take place by early December.
Shaw already advised BoxingScene that Geale is not going to avoid a fight with Golovkin.
"We are not going to run from Golovkin or anyone else. I will have no problem at all making a fight with Tom Loeffler and K2 [Promotions]," Shaw said.

Sucks for Sturm.
What are the chances Geale vs Golovkin actually happens in December?

Good. Both guys want to fight the best. I say make it happen and put it on the undercard of Cotto's next fight.SlickMoney wrote:Sucks for Sturm.

It sounds like Geale is at least thinking about fighting Soliman in an Australian affair but I am pretty sure Golovkin earned another HBO fight with this performance. The HBO money should be enough to convince Geale who is not afraid of anyone. Geale has been underrated for sometime now but I have Golovkin walking through him. Also, either guy would rather have the Sergio-Jr. winner because that is much more money. I don't think the winner would fight either guy.

golovkin and gleal need to fight. it would actually be really good for the division and i seriously think that its a win-win for the fighters. both just showed that they are legit and even the loser gets the status of being a real fighter that will fight the best.

Sturm was expecting another gift from the judges I bet. I won't be surprised if they do anther rematch down the line, I'm sure theyll make an offer to Geale which he won't resist.
