Robert Guerrero's options are Jorge Linares, Jason Litzau rematch

According to Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer, former champion Robert Guerrero has plenty of options for his next fight, but it doesn't appear that WBO/WBA lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez is one of them. Marquez has focused his energy on chasing a third fight with Manny Pacquiao and refuses to entertain the possibility of any other opponent, for the moment.

"Marquez refuses to discuss anything else but Manny Pacquiao. That's the only fight that he wants, and that's all that he's really interested in right now. So it would be really disrespectful of me to go and go and to discuss anything else," Schaefer said. "For Robert, though, I have had conversations with HBO to get Robert back on HBO, and the sooner the better. Maybe sometime in the first quarter of 2011 in a meaningful fight."

"I think that Robert Guerrero is one of these young fighters who has one of the brightest futures ahead of him in boxing in his weight class in the 130s and the 140s. There are so many big names and so many big opportunities there for Robert."

A few names have already been thrown in Schaefer's direction by HBO. One of them is Jorge Linares, another former champion promoted by Golden Boy. Schaefer says Jason Litzau is another possible candidate. Guerrero stopped Litzau in eight rounds in February of 2008. Since the loss, Litzau has been on a good run with wins over Rocky Juarez and Celestino Caballero.

"HBO mentioned to me Jorge Linares, that they would be interested in that fight. Another opportunity is Guerrero against Jason Litzau, so there are opportunities out there," Schaefer said.

His options shouldn't just be Golden Boy fighters though, Lightweight has Acosta, Funeka, Soto, Murray, Rios and Vazquez.

Guerrero on facebook put Marquez was going to be his next opponent and all his followers got a hard on. I knew he was full of it, just because your a madatory for an ABC belt doesnt mean you'll fight the real Champion. Marquez has no need for Guerrero, he should fight Morlaes and Pacquaio next year and call it quits. If Guerrero fights Litzua again, I wouldnt be surprised. Guerrero isnt fighting anyone with a pulse it seems. Litzua has no chin and is a club fighter, no need to see him again. He was exposed years ago and just exposed another one of his own kind. The Linares-Guerrero fight sounds so great, but in this sport match up seem to never materialize. Both guy would want top dollar to fight each other i would assume.

HBO should enforce this fight though, make the only way Guerrero and Linares ever get a date on a HBO card is for both to fight each other. Linares has way more skill, but that chin in glass. All Guerrero has is speed, power and a solid chin, and sometimes knowing how to evade attacks but thats it. His horrible footwork will get him in trouble vs championship caliber fighters.

Guerrero needs to get rid of his pops, got him this far, but he just isnt a top level trainer

I'm a big fan of Linares but he's in over his head against Guerrero. He hasn't had a fight at LW because he's not physically ready to handle the weight. Guerrero is a big LW. He would stop Linares.

Guerrero is actually not even a lightweight. He can still make 130. He weighed in at 133 against Escobedo.

Marquez will make Guerrero quit again.

Linares i think wins a decision against him.

Put Guerrero in against Katsidis and we'll see what he's made of.

Guerrero Linares is a nice fight. I think Katsides can get the ghost, too rugged. I agree get rid of his dad.

He sparred with Pac, dropped him with a left hand and now believes he can beat him all of a sudden. Its the reason he doesnt train with Roach anymore because he wants that fight. Some people love to dream though.

who knows, but he did get GTA for one of his Cadillac while his quick sting in LA lol. Someone really has it out for this guy. This guys career is really being hurt with this Whole Flomo-GBP-Pac-TR beef. The two firms arent doing business anymore and its hurting Guerrero because Arum owns the lightweight division. Because of this Guerrero wont get those match ups with Rios, Soto, Antillon, and Vazquez.

Yeah it's unfortunate Guerrero moved to Lightweight during this beef, but he should be forcing Golden Boy to get him fights with Miguel Vazquez and Acosta.
