Ward says he'll fight Dawson at 168

Chad said he can make the weight. This is a great fight but if made means we probably never see the Bute fight.

chad made the mistake of thinking he can make 168 with ease.he will find out different..i dont view this as a great fight myself.ward seems pretty eagor to do the dawson fight far more eagor then the bute fight which everyone wanted..i wish the fight was at 175..it would be a little more interesting..the winner has 2 good contenders after that.pasqual-cloud winner and if bute beats carl.my advise to dawson next time is STFU.

No decisions should be made until Bute vs. Froch.

Dawson could make 171 or 172 with not alot of trouble. Getting to 168 is going to weaken him.

Why? Do you know something we don't? He's been saying this for years. Let him prove himself wrong. It's only seven lbs. He never struggles to make weight as it is.

Again, let's wait and find out. He's willing to come down to face Ward of all people. It's not like he's going to get a huge payday with Ward. Why would Dawson put himself at such a disadvantage for little money and huge risk? Finally, we have top fighters calling each other out, willing to make concessions and fighting in their primes and you guys are negative about it? Get negative if it doesn't play out or these guys start backpedaling. Ward has been the one to back peddle in the past, so let's see what he does here.

hardcore no ones negative about the fight.its a good fight to sell since it involves 2 REAL champs.its dawsons big mouth suggesting 168 when it may of not been a factor to make the fight.he gave away the store real fast.if weight was to be a issue im sure 172 could of been agreeded upon.

This is negative LOL. It's a pessimistic look at something we don't know yet. If Dawson can make the weight then why not?

i dont view it as a negative but as stupidity..again he can make 168 hell 165 160 sure..does it mean he will be able to function at his best.that dawson may not know himself.you dont give zero away without negotiating a serious attempt to make the fight.for a guy that has shown zero in the ring his last few fights he has a huge false sence of bravido that goes along with his stupidity..

I'm not pessimistic and will definitely be watching the fight (unless it's a $60-80 ppv) but this is one of the few times I'd rather see a catch weight. Dawson might not have any trouble, but that isn't definite. We know he can make weight at 175. Always safer going with what you know will work (Dawson fighting at closer to 175) than going with something new. Boxers are irrational in what they think they can do (I'm sure Brandon Rios thought he could make 135) and quick to use built in excuses (Best case scenario: "I didn't mention this at all before the fight...but the weight really affected me. I thought it wouldn't, but it did. I still should have won, but it's too bad you didn't see me at my best tonight. Between dealing with the weight, having the flu, and have torn my acl in the 2nd round, it was hard to do what I wanted"). I don't want any room for any sort of BS excuses in such a high caliber fight.

I'd have prefered if Ward would have fought Dawson at 175. Ward is going to be fighting in that division sooner than later anyways. And it's not like Dawson is exactly heavy handed.

Instead of a catchweight, just put in the contract for a same day weigh in so Dawson can't bloon up into the 180s. I'm sure Dawson's camp will be fine with that over trying to drain down to a weight he hasn't been at in nearly a decade.

Either way, I like the fight since there is nobody better either fighter can fight right now. Pascal-Cloud fighting each other and the same for Bute-Froch.

For a fight that would/is going to mean a whole lot in ranking fighters of this generation, it is being rushed into. It really should be at 175 after Ward clears out 168 and Chad gets revenge on Pascal or fights Cloud.

I agree. Both have a more logical fight to make later this year. Dawson vs Pascal/Cloud winner. Ward vs Bute.

Then you would have two divisions with a clear champ and then Ward can move up for the fight.

Honestly these guys are boring. it might be better for them money wise if there are a couple more fights at their respective weights and then a fight next summer. At least then they would have done everything possible to make it as big as possible.

I don't like that Ward wants Dawson at 168 even if Chad had suggested it. The fight is more compelling AT 175, no catch weight. I could live without the Bute fight for Ward if he faces Dawson next. He's already the ring champ at 168, and if he goes up in weight has the opportunity to face the ring champ at 175, there's not a better fight then that. Bute can just come up to 175 and fight the winner.

Ward vs Dawson is unlikely though. There will be a lot of issues in making this fight.

Cloud doesn't deserve a date with Ward. Not only would Ward destroy cloud, but Cloud doesn't deserve a payday after his robbery win.

You could say the same about the Bute/Ward fight being rushed. Both Bute and Ward need to build up their names more before those two clash.

Either at a catchweight or at 168. September is the month.

All that says to me is that Ward doesn't want any part of Bute. He should at least give Froch the benefit of the doubt that he can do his dirty work for him. Ward v. Dawson isn't nearly as interesting as a Ward v. Bute fight, IMO.

Come on! You act like Ward is going to fight some cream puff instead of Bute. Dawson is the Light HW Champ. He isn't a bum. He has a 50% shot easy to beat Ward. It's a pick 'em type fight.

I'm fine with this fight. I hope Ward wins and maybe he can fight Bute afterwards.
