Marquez: I want Morales, Khan, Manny or JML at 135
http://www.boxingscene.com/?m=show&id=33142
WBA/WBO lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez advised BoxingScene.com that he doesn't have much interest in fighting Robert Guerrero. Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer had mentioned Guerrero as a possible opponent - if Marquez is able to beat Michael Katsidis this Saturday in Las Vegas.
Marquez would like to get a third fight with Manny Pacquiao. If the Pacquiao fight doesn't happen, he's willing to fight either WBA junior welterweight champion Amir Khan, or Erik Morales, at 140-pounds.
"I want the big fights, like Pacquiao, Khan, Morales. Maybe go up and make history [at 140] by winning four titles," Marquez told BoxingScene.com.
Another possible opponent ruled out by Marquez is WBO 126-pound champ Juan Manuel Lopez, who recently beat his younger brother Rafael. Lopez told BoxingScene he was willing to fight Marquez at a catch-weight of 130-pounds.
Marquez replied "he would have to come to 135. I'm not going down, I'm looking to move up."

He first has to get by Katsidis, which I believe he will do, but I wouldn't be shocked if he did lose. He also needs to forget about Khan.

I think JMM has earned the right to a great farewell fight. I think he beats Katsidis (we'll see) and then after that he deserves to pick an opponent that'll validate his career. Khan may be too big, Morales would get crushed but hey, it's his choice. Maybe Pac will Give him the trilogy.

LOL Morales vs JMM is a farewell fight for both.. one guy ends his career on a high note with a dominant win, the other guy ends up in the hospital

He should be more careful talking about not moving down because it just gives Pacquiao even more clout to make the fight at 145 so he doesn't have to move down. I'm interested to see how he looks against Katsidis before I talk about him at 140 EVEN against Morales. I still think JMM would win but he is too small for 140 and getting very old.

Can JMM still make 130? I mean he was never a sizable lightweight to begin with.. or is he at the point where he's small in the division at 135, but too old to boil down to 130? How much did that botched weight gain for the Flod fight hurt him?

No...he said he's willing to fight at 140. There's nobody left at 135 for him after Katsidis. He's simply calling out big names now.Groundhog wrote:Did he just call out everyone NOT in his weight class to fight at his weight class? LMAO.
PS: He would kill JuanMa.

You don't think Guerrero and Soto are reasonable challenges? Or is it that they just aren't going to get him the kind of money he wants in his Methuselah years?
I know they are both based here, but I wonder what kind of money he could get taking Jorge Linares back to Japan for a title fight?

Should Pac accomodate JMM @ 140?
What has JMM done to deserve an audience? If I reckon, Arum approached JMM before the Clottey fight but Juan and his peeps parroted GBP's line on OSDT and was asking 50/50. Would we see Pac's divaness by asking higher weight?
Would JMM chase the money if Pac asks for a 144/145 catchweight?
On a side note, does in mean Pac is draining JMM @ 144 considering that JMM's last fight @ WW was 146 against the great Floyd?

Linares is campaigning at 126
Soto and Guerrero I think wasted away their best years fighting nobodies and being inactive
Casamayor dropped Robert and went the distance not doing much, Fucking Vicente Escrubedo was lighting him up late
I think JMM is near the end, but even this Marquez is a level above those two
I dont mind him chasing the money at this point whether its Khan or Morales at the higher weight for a BS trinket or the Pac trilogy
Of course, this all depends on a W Saturday night

At this point, I think JMM concedes everything to get Pac in the ring a third time

Slightly freak showish but I'd watch it. I think we've seen a bit of everything in the past couple years lol.

So am I the only one thinking that the Pac fight would more or less be retirement fund?

Sounds good to me Morales is kinda a douche.Groundhog wrote:flapanther2001 wrote:I think JMM has earned the right to a great farewell fight. Guerrero & Soto would be good foes if JMM was simply defending his title. But this is a sayonara fight he's looking for. Linares is too small & chinny to draw a crowd. JMM needs Pac or Khan.marbleheadmaui wrote:flapanther2001 wrote:No...he said he's willing to fight at 140. There's nobody left at 135 for him after Katsidis. Linares' last two fights were at 135. He hasn't fought at 126 in three years.

I am persuaded. I'd LOVE to see Manny get down to 135 and fight for lineal title #5!

Khan and Manny brutalize Marquez at 140lb or 147lb.

Agreed. Khan is longer and stronger. Marquez is not big for 135 even.Ali wrote:Khan and Manny brutalize Marquez at 140lb or 147lb.
That being said, Khan better not sleep on Maidana. If he gets hit with something big early, we will have one hell of a fight.
