The Hopkins vs. Dawson undercard

At Los Angeles, Saturday, Oct 15th, on HBO PPV: Bernard Hopkins vs. Chad Dawson, 12 rounds, for Hopkins' Ring/WBC light heavyweight title. This fight figures to be a candidate for "Stinker of the Year" honors.

Fortunately for the fans sake, there's 2 good fights on the undercard: Antonio DeMarco vs. Jorge Linares, for the vacant WBC lightweight title, and Kendall Holt vs. Danny Garcia, a WBC/IBF junior welterweight title eliminator.

To me, the undercard still doesn't make it worth PPV money, but it will make the card worth watching. (on a stream)

agreed. Will be interesting. If Holt lands clean how will Garcia handle it? Holt has some major pop. I think Demarco is the perfect opponent for Linares. Demarco-boxes and is pretty good, but Linares has faster feet and faster hands. Demarco will have some moments but Linares's class should show as the bout progresses.

Only way this PPV doesn't become a massive bomb is if they had Katy Perry doing a ping-pong show as the co-feature

The PPV might not totally bomb, some boxing fans will buy just about any HBO PPV, and "casual" fans might be fooled into thinking this is a good fight. Just guessing, with the decent undercard, the PPV should exceed the fighter's guarantees, and make a profit for HBO.

I dunno. The fight has zero hype and publicity. Pavlik-Hops got only like 70k buys. Was lower selling HBO PPV. Pavlik was a bigger name than Dawson

I think Pavlik-Hops got double that. Lowest HBO PPV i believe was Marquez-Casamayor which only got like 80k.

Might be right but I remember Pavlik-Hops did really bad and it was blamed on the start of the recession

Don't get me wrong, Hop vs Chad has a 99% chance of being a stinker, just sayin' Hop's popularity might have risen a bit after the 2 Pascal fights, and I figure a lot of fans will wanna see how the fight with Dawson plays out. For that reason and the decent undercard, I don't see this PPV bombing, of course it's not going to be wildly successful either.

I'm curious myself, just not curious enough to buy the PPV, shitty PPV's are the reason we get streams, and one of the reasons god created beer, along with making ugly women at bars look better at closing time.
