Politics drive me nuts 99% of the time. I am not a liberal nor am I much of a conservative. But there is something I just don't understand. Why is it that the rich can not pay higher taxes? Lets just look at the basic facts of who has the most money and can afford it? I really would not care about this issue if there was not over 1 trillion in tax breaks for the top 1% of the population handed out every year. That's bullshit. Lets just switch to a flat tax. Anyone ever notice that the idea of a flat tax gets killed all the time? Its not the middle class or poor killing that idea we don't have enough money to have any type of political pull in Washington.

I really would lay off the rich if they would just reinvest in jobs in this country or at least give us a damn raise. I have been teaching for 6 years and I have never had a raise but my class sizes have gone up to 33 per class what the fuck?

It would be political suicide for them to say everyone has to pay the tax, regardless of income.

Taxing millionars and huge companies does nothing. These guys got a army of lawyers and tax men that'll manipulate shit so they don't pay shit. If say the IRS get's harder on them, they'll just take the cost out of somewhere else. Successful companies and CEOs don't get to where they're at by just eating costs. They'll just cut jobs, continue to find cheaper labor overseas, ect.

Real problem is, government spends and wastes too much money. We're in a recession and Obama has spend more than any other President ever.

we just went over the Romans in my class and the Han dynasty in China and in both cases it was the greed of the aristocrats that caused 99% of the problems. That is exactly what is going in here. In the Han it was land distribution. Here its the distribution of wealth thats the problems. The wealthy better watch the fuck out because a revolution will happen eventually. You can't keep exploiting the working class with no repercussions.

Raising taxes will do nothing to the millionars and billionars. As said, they'll either just manipulate their taxes or cut the costs.

It's small businesses and working class that are successful that get fucked. They're the ones paying for this country. People making above 60k a year.

Government corruption is caused by power hungry politicians that want to control everything and tax people making money to death. They want more people to be dependant on the government, because that makes them powerful.

We're talking about politicians pushing for socialism. What happened with Fannie and Freddie was pure corporate socialism. Had the government forcing banks, creditors, ect to approve absurd loans to low income people. You had people making maybe 10-15k a year getting approved for 100k dollar home loans.

Yeah, it is greed. The government being the greediest of them all.

and the men in power are all millionaires. G W Bush is the best example of rich peoples greed.

I'm not into class warfair. I'm not the type that sees a millionare and automatically assume he must be a greedy fuck. Not saying they aren't. But I strive to be successful myself.

And all I see is a bunch of people that want a fucking handout and think they are entitled to shit. I see people that don't pay shit in taxes dictating that people that do make money should be ass raped in taxes.

If the government actualy showed to the taxpayers that they are cutting wasteful spending and have a tight budget, then we can talk about tax increases. But not going to support it when all I see is wastfull spending, ObamaCare which I didn't approve of, and giving billion dollar companies bail outs.

If you are a doctor or small business owner who makes 500,000 why should your marginal rate be the same as an athlete who made 2,000,000.

Why should an athlete who made 2,000,000 have the same marginal rate as an athlete who made 17,000,000.


Carried interest rule for hedge fund managers. The rules basically allow many hedge fund managers to be taxed on their earnings at the long-term capital gain rates instead of ordinary income rates. 15% instead of 35%.

The problem is that we are a very individualistic and capitalist society. People think in terms of themselves and not in terms of the nation on a day to day basis. Rich people who could contribute more to help society, simply don't want to. Poor people who could contribute by living within their means and sacrificing to take less off the table are the same way.

I think politics has been controlled or at least heavily influenced by the private sector for a long time. That means that the very wealthy minority in this country decide our nation's policies. Why would those people want to do anything that might hurt their wealth and status or that of their kids? Poorer people and the general population argue "because it's the right thing to do" or "because the nation needs your help". The elite respond that the nation will be fine and they know what's right (their wealth is an indication of their superior thinking).

That leaves politicians in the middle. They have to openly support the ideas and wishes of the majority, but privately support the demands of the elite to get things done. On top of that a lot of the politicians are either part of the elite or have ambitions of becoming part of that group and everyone gets screwed.

Another huge issue is the size of our country. It's very difficult to regulate and enforce policies. With so many people trying to scam the system and wanting different things, it's hard to have any control.

Exactly and this is why I am saying that shit better change soon if they don't want a rebellion. It has happened in the past and will happen again.

I don't see a rebellion happening anytime soon. Overall, citizens are pretty well taken care of in this country. I think more important than a rebellion is getting the right people to run for office and voting for them. A lot of people put themselves in bad situations by being misinformed. When I look at the Tea Party, which to me is the biggest group that would try some sort of rebellion or large scale action, I doubt they even know what they'd be rebelling against.
