MARQUEZ-KATSIDIS
It seems to me there are really only two likely outcomes to the upcoming battle for the lightweight championship of the world.
Katsidis Wins-Juan Manuel Marquez simply cannot stand up to the younger, more energetic and excessively motivate Katsidis' pressure. Instead of being troubled the way he was by Juan Diaz for three rounds, Marquez is unable to find a way to reverse the onslaught. As the fight progresses Katsidis' begins rolling downhill. He gets closer, lands more frequently and as the fight goes on becomes dominant. Marquez's guile, guts and stubbornness enables him to make the occasional counterattack and he is able put off finality until very late in the fight, but he never really turns the tide. In this scenario the question is does it reach the final bell.
Marquez Wins-In this scenario Katsidis is always motivated so his brother's death doesn't have much of an incremental impact. This fight looks like a kind of replay of the Diaz fight. Katsidis might have moments early but he really lacks that singular advantage that he can exploit. Age just isn't enough. In the middle rounds JMM begins to dictate the action, landing sharp shots that mark Katsidis up. By the eighth or the ninth Katsidis has slowed and now Marquez does what he does and shift onto his front foot and begins to dominate. Now the situation is reversed and the issue is does Katsidis hear the final bell?
It seems to me this fight is likely in either case to see the championship rounds but with one fighter in control by then. Am I nuts? Could this be really close late or could one guy take the other out early?

Re: MARQUEZ-KATSIDIS
I think Marquez will take over in the second half of the fight with superior counter punching and timing, but not with out taking a few scrapes from Katsidis.

Re: MARQUEZ-KATSIDIS
who knows where marquez is physically at this point. if he is still good, he will easily beat katsidis. if he is wearing down, he has a good chance of losing.

Really? JMM never been stopped and Katsidis has not taken any decent fighter out that quickly. You think JMM could be that far gone?

Re: MARQUEZ-KATSIDIS
For some reason that I can't explain I picked Katsidis, so this is my best effort. I thought that it looked like Marquez lost a step in his last fight against Juan Diaz. The same Diaz that was ko'd by Marquez and had two tough fights with Malignaggi. Katsidis on the other has looked tough and has seemed to improve with every fight since losing to Diaz. Katsidis gets hit way too much but I think his work rate prevails in this one against the over aged and undersized Marquez.

I LOVE the FTW, but can anyone tell me how the heck Hollywood Squares got it's tag line to become prominent on the interwebnet thingy?

JMM should win this, but he's gonna look like a mess afterwards... Katsidis swells up pretty easily too.

Until about two months ago I thought it meant Fuck The World, I couldn't understand why people were always saying Fuck The World.

I can't see it reaching the final bell, someone will get stopped or the corner will step in.

Re: MARQUEZ-KATSIDIS
kat is a smarter fighter than when he was ko'd by casa.it was the impetuosity of youth that caused that.kat had that fight won before he got careless & since has picked his times & ways to attack.not just an all out assault anymore.the mitchell fight was a great preparation for this.not saying mitchel is anywhere near even an aged warrior like jmm,but fighting in his backyard with all those poms baying for an aussie killing....yet kat kept his composure, was more patient(yes i know it wan early ko) than before & when the opening appeared....good night irene.
my heart says kat,but in reality, kat only wins if jmm isn't still the fighter or at least 80% the fighter most of us think he is.if age etc has caught up with jmm,i think we'll notice between rounds 4-6 rounds because kat's pressure etc will start catching jmm out then
p.s green v flores was a good fight

I want to see if Katsidis can put it together. His heart is unquestioned. I think his skills have improved and he'll be an attraction if he wins. This fight could catapult him.

Failed against Casamayor, failed against Juan Diaz, could this be third time lucky for Katsidis to win a major lightweight title ?

My own guess is those two fights demonstrate Katsidis' inherent limitations.

Re: MARQUEZ-KATSIDIS
yeah green flores was fun.interesting for me was how after first couple of rounds green realised he couldn't hunt flores down.flores was timing green & catching him.green showed more versatility than i gave him credit for, turning more into a boxer, getting flores to come to him & countering.

In the end that was a fight between a guy who knew what he was doing and a guy who didn't.

Re: MARQUEZ-KATSIDIS
very true.amazing how it comes down to something so simple.i'm wondering if part of that's because green knows what it's like to lose, flores didn't.the saying is you learn more(mostly about yourself)from defeats.will be interesting to watch how flores reacts,he definetly has talent & tools, just needs to find desire & will, maybe.
