Yeah, for prospects. A bigger budget Next Generation. No full details on when it will be on.

The Fat Man's blog said probably Tuesdays or Thursdays.
I won't get too excited though. It sounds like each promoter will put on their own show. Most likely it'll be their prospects in against stiffs.

which in my opinion is good for the sport. it gives the new names (the future), exposure to the fans. it gets them a fanbase and creates interest for them. shows like this will help to build stars. stars is what boxing needs if it is to survive as us fans want it to.

I agree. Be cool if they put some of the fights on TNT, which is a bigger platform for exposure

As long as it doesn't turn into an Arum/Versus thing. That was god awful.

it appears Golden Boy/Top Rank, and a couple of other promotional companies all have 3 dates. Such bullshit. No competition for fights. Each company will put their prospects in soft.

it is just another fuck up on HBO's part. You ask for the companies to put together good cards and fight for the dates.
whenever the promotional outfits have had promised dates they put on garbage shows

They're providing a platform for young prospects to get some exposure, I have no problem with this.

exposure for prospects is good.Ali wrote:captainanddew wrote:Ali wrote:It's better than nothing.

But the companies need to keep things in perspective:
the prospects need to learn their craft and be brought along properly.
If they match them properly then great. If they put them in soft and it does nothing but raise a guys profile only to get spanked the first time he is matched tough, then it will be a waste of time.
In the last half decade the promotional companies have done a poor job of bringing along prospects. In large part it has been because they are so scared of having a guy lose a perfect record that they continually pick opponents that are too easily beaten.

If its anything like ShoBox, should be good.
As usual, falls on HBO to approve the matches presented by the promoters

So another show for Goosen-Tutor/Haymon fighters to demolish bums? GREAT!
This is a good idea, but i'm sure HBO will fuck it up.

DiBella's Take on HBO New Series For Rising Prospects
By Mike Coppinger
Starting in January 2012, HBO plans to introduce a new proving ground for boxing prospects in the form of a new series similar to ShoBox: The New Generation.
Each month, there will be at least one tripleheader aired, with four major promoters – Top Rank, Golden Boy, DiBella Entertainment and Gary Shaw Productions – each being assigned three months with which to stage bouts on HBO 2, according to a report by Dan Rafael of ESPN.com.
b o x i n g s c e n e . c o m caught up with Lou DiBella at his Broadway Boxing show in Brooklyn, N.Y. this past Saturday to get his thoughts on the new series.
“I think it will be a very good platform, because HBO needs a feeder system and they need to develop fighters,” said DiBella, who was the Head of Programming at HBO Sports for 10 years. “ShoBox might be the best series to my mind right now in boxing and I think it’s a good opportunity for HBO to develop some kids.”
Even with the changing of the guard at HBO Sports, DiBella is certain that the series will go on as planned, stating that HBO has “already committed that they’re doing it.”

True, but HBO can only approve what's offered. In the end they need product to put on, they have to rely on thier suppliers (the promoters) for that product.
I just hope if they don't match guys tough they at least get some bums who will put in an effort. There are tough guys out there who will give you rounds even if they have limited skills; that way at least you get to see a prospect work a while.
