why doesnt soto ever fight top guys?

he has been a solid fighter for a long time but never seems to actually face top opponents for some reason. does anybody know why? is it the promotor or what? i think that soto had potential do be a really good fighter but he never fights any top ranked fighter.

At 130 he was a beast, and none of the top guys wanted any part of him. Too much risk. At 135, he's lost a lot of his power, and seems to be on the downslide of his career.

hasn't needed to face top guys. He got paid decently to fight the level of guys he has faced.

i dont agree. at 130 he did face one its top guys in joan guzman and was completely outclassed and that's why he hasn't been fighting top guys.

He won't get as good deals without Arum now. He might be able to run the lightweight division in about a year. JMM is chasing money and trinkets, Guerrero appears to be moving up, and Rios is huge for a lightweight. Without those 3, he is the clear class of the division. I will watch his next year with a lot of interest.

I don't know, it's a pity because there was alot of great fights out there at Lightweight for Soto. The Top Rank beef with Golden Boy didn't help matters.

it seems he's chased the Pacquiao's and JMM's upto lightweight and just not been given the opportunity. i feel he should have got a shot at JMM for the lineal 135lb crown but i'm guessing the TR/GBP politics have prevented that from ever happening

Well just becuase hes making decent money for fighting bums doesnt mean he doesnt have to face top guys. I was saying for years that Soto hasnt faced anyone good (to people like Slick and Gomez), especially after Guzman embarrassed him. He was going to face Guerrero In December of 08 on HBO with Guerrero for a unification match at 130, but Goosseen fucked it all up by taking GBP to court for over Guerrero's promotional rights. Uncle Bob hasnt done shit to promote him very well, reason Soto left his ass. The biggest thing Arum did was make it seem Pacquaio didnt want to face Soto to give him a name, back when they were both at 130 lol. Well at least hes been keeping himself busy in Mexico, not many fighters do this anymore. His fight last year with Antillon was ESPN FOTY (Dans FOTY). He just doesnt have the pop at lightweight and I think his handlers are just milking his WBC title for as long as they can. Marquez and Guerrero both beat him, maybe even Rios and Acosta.

Soto would blow out Guerrero like he did Bobby Pac!!

i think that soto would be too tough for guerrero. he is a tough guy with boxing ability and a decent punch. i still think that soto gives most top lightweights problems and beats most of them.

Soto seems to be one of those guys that gives promoters fits. You never know which Soto will show up, however, he's been good as of late. I think he's as good as he's ever been & should be fighting the absolute best at 135.

Guerrero easily beats Soto. I haae a feeling were not too far from this match up.

Any update on who Soto's promoter is?

I agree on the first sentence but not on the 2nd. I think Ghost might be done with lightweight which saddens me.

I agree man. Very likely done with 135. IF he beats Maidana it is a given.
