Bumfredo. Perfect example of building a base. Even before the contender he had a regional following.
Take a fighter and keep him in his home area. Build a base. Atlantic City and Vegas are for big fights and big names that can sell everywhere.
It is embarrasing that guys like Manfredo and Fernando Guerrero (and others) have a hometown or regional following while guys like PW, Berto, etc..., can't draw anyone to watch them fight. When you put all their fights in Vegas or Atlantic City, you are making a huge mistake. Promoters today stink. No other way to put it.

BumFredo was also on The Contender when was on network TV, and when was popular. So he got a name off of that.
Fact is, fighters are greedy and stupid. I'd take less money as a fighter and try to get on network TV to get the exposure.
Exposure=money.

true, exposure does equal money. But even before the contender he had more of a following at home than PW or Berto ever did. He fought in the same area over and over (along with alot of the same other guys).
Andre Ward-a guy that is a smart boxer (but has a style that can be a tad boring to the average fan), fought at home the first time in the Super 6. Why did they wait till he got to the super 6 to put a fight in his hometown??????? Dumb. Have him fighting there all the time, unless it is a huge fight that needs to be in Vegas.

That works by the way. Thats how Allan Green and Comanche Boy have grown their popularity.captainanddew wrote:GrantZilla wrote:BumFredo was also on The Contender when was on network TV, and when was popular. So he got a name off of that.

Re: Any fights on tonight?
Ward fought Miranda in his hometown And a majority of his fights were in Cali. He had several in San Jose, which isn't that far from Oakland, like an hour away.

I understand that, but it still doesn't make sense to me that he never fought in Oakland before the super 6.

Miranda wasn't the Super-Six. And probably because couldn't get a crowd yet. Ward wasn't a main eventer yet, Miranda was his step-up fight.
But atleast majority of his fights were in his homestate and not very far from where he's at.
Can't say the same for Williams who fights on the West Coast when he's from Georgia and was born in South Carolina.

Correct sir. It was his final fight before the super 6. Friday night is a rough time for my brain.
