Juan Manuel Marquez vs David Diaz close for July 16th

WBO/WBA lightweight world champion Juan Manuel Marquez confirmed last week's report by BoxingScene.com, and said his next fight will take place on July 16, and not July 2. Marquez says he is close to a deal to fight former lightweight champion David Diaz, at 140-pounds, and the fight will be televised in the United States. Marquez is using the July fight as a tuneup for his trilogy with Manny Pacquiao, scheduled for November 12 in Las Vegas at 144 pounds. Marquez is taking a trip to Miami, Florida to finalize some details on his July fight and then he plans to return to Mexico City this weekend where he plans to formally begin his training at the Romanza Gym for the clash against Diaz.

This a heck of a tuneup before a career payday fight in November. If he loses the Pac fight is off.

If anything, people will use this fight as a barometer considering it's a common opponent of the two. If JMM can terrorize Diaz like Pac did, it will fuel the fire of promotions for III.

JMM is probably prett confident in his abilities otherwise im sure that he wouldnt take this fight as a tune up

Marquez doesn't want to have been sitting for a year before fighting Pac. I can understand that.

Diaz is tailor made for Marquez, he'll come forward and will be bombarded with counters.

i agree with this viewpoint. Marquez is going to go to work like a surgeon on Diaz. he will slowly figure Diaz out and after 4 rounds it will be target practice for Marquez. not a bad tune-up fight IMO. Marquez is another living legend, shame he's just too old and too small to contend with a 2011 Welterweight Manny Pacquiao

he lost to Chris John in Indonesia guys, I was just saying that I'm surprised he's risking getting cut, injured anything to jeopardize his fight with Pac. With that said I'll shut up about it being a risk now. LOL Panther "Half as strong as Katsidis & twice as slow"
