They're not bad rankings. I might not have Bute in there. Great fighter, but not necessarily accomplished. Carl Froch going 4-1 against Pascal, Taylor, Dirrell, Kessler, and Abraham is better than anything Bute has ever done. Not that I'd pick Froch in that fight, but still...

It's subjective at the end of the day. I lean towards talent and ability, others lean more heavily towards who they've beaten.

It's weird because when doing a list of past greats, people tend to go off accomplishments pretty strictly. In current rankings, it gets way more subjective. What a guy thinks of a head-to-head matchup or a guy's potential plays into it more. So that's how you get everyone ranking Bute at the top of 168, though if it were all said and done and they couldn't fight again, he'd be around 5th in this 168 class.

But that could quickly change with Saturday's outcome.

I agree that Khan should be in there at the bottom, but not Mares. I would put Agbeko in over him, and I wouldn't put in either until one wins the tourney. I'd also consider Adamek. He does a lot for his size.

Khans best win is against Maidana and Morales pretty much embarrassed him last month. Then wins over Kotelnik, Paulie, Salita, McClosey?? I bunch of soft punchers with no reason chance at winning in those fights.

As for Mares, if he beats Agbeko he has a claim. He already beat Vic (barely) and drew against Perez. However no one besides Gomez thought Perez won it. 2 judges had it a BS draw and the other had it right by having Mares up on points. Mares isnt even the #2 guy at Bantom any ways. The only way he gets in the top 10 is by beating Donaire or Moreno (plus montiel if no donaire). But really Nonito kills Mares! Wlad is deserving on the list, his brother, nope.

I do mine on how badly they defeat competition and how close they lose to another top p4p guy. For instance if Floyd and Pac fought and Pac lost a split decision I would only swap his spot with Mayweather. Pacquiao right now in my opinion is badly beating guys who have never been dominated so easily over the course of a fight until meeting Pac. If he fights and beats Marquez badly his stock rises again in my opinion. Marquez is still viable and a ring champ who is coming off dominant victories of his own against ranked fighters. He's also the last guy to really test Pac and he's ranked top five p4p on most lists and save for Mayweather he's the closest guy size wise p4p.

but doesn't Maidana's win over Ortiz carry more weight. Ortiz proved himself at welter and to be a damn good fighter.
