Ward already eying a move to Light Heavyweight
"After the tournament, I want to face Lucian Bute. Nobody else comes to mind. However, I do not intend to underestimate any opponent, and first I need to focus on winning the tournament. If I win the tournament and beat Bute, it would be everything that I could achieve [at this weight]. Therefore, in the future I do intend to move up. I want to win titles and face the best. The tournament, organized by Showtime, gave me the opportunity to fight the best fighters in my category, and after its completion there won't be anything for me at this weight,"

Ward will definitely have a case for moving up IF he achieves his goals, but it'll be annoying since the vacancy which will have just been filled will now go right back to being vacant

If he beats Froch and Bute, no beef with him moving up to 175

No beef, just sucks to know the Ring title will become vacant again.
Same with Jr Welterweight, Khan and Bradley will move up to Welterweight after they acquire the title.

ali i understand but the titles vacant now.theres no guarentee it will be filled either since ward has to win two more fights and the kahn bradley fight may never come off at 140..also look at the possibilty that fronch can win his next 2 fights and face brute making it for the ring title.so could johnson..

It is good when we determine who is the man in a respective weight division. It would be great if that title got defended multiple times.
But If Ward were to beat: Kessler, Green, Bika, Abraham, Froch (or Johnson), and Bute, then who else does he really need to defend against? He basically will have beaten 6 straight guys ranked in the top 10 at 168!!!!
And one of the four he beat thus far, none of them require a rematch.

I don't got a problem with it. Yeah, it sucks the Championship will be vacant again.
However, if he does win The Ring belt, not like they will strip him for fighting at Light HW. He can defend it within a year. If not, The Ring will ask that he vacate it. Or demand, in the case of Pac at Jr Welter.
So if there is appealing enough fight at Super Middle, I could see him taking it. Or if it doesn't work out at Light HW.

Well now that hes beaten Kessler and is able to beat Froch (hopefully he gets passed Johnson) and then Bute. Theres would be nothing left for him to do at 168 given the fact that the only remaining threat (Dirrell) ducked him like a coward. Add Ward to at 175 with Pascal, Hopkins, Cloud and Dawson... and thats a very great crowd at LHW.

It's also bad news for Showtime, HBO are the ones who are invested in the LHW division at the moment. But things could change by then.
