This is a damn tough round. I love Tom Petty but I dont think he has a shot against the other three. Clapton is my pick this round.

sinatra does not belong in there at all.he cant win is reason number 1.the other reason is hes so far better and greater then thoses guys its pathetic.
why is he head over heals greater.well first you got to understand interpetation of song.delivery.telling a story.creating a mood.phrasing.diction.singing from lifes experiences .and vocal instrument breath control.etc etc etc.theres the swing sinatra which most people know yes.then theres the young sinatra.he wasnt called the voice for nothing.

Personally I like Clapton more but I cant see Sinatra not getting a lot of votes.

there are singers.there are artists that are popluar dispite there lack of talent.there are good singers then there are a select few that are master singers.lanza distefano and sinatra my 3 favorites in that order are amoung the few elite master singers..lol distefano who.this is a poll for the under 30 crowd.not a realistic all time great poll..frank will lose in this one.if mike jackson quincy jones tony bennet count basie liza minelli and yes elvis could vote they would choze the best pop singer ever is sinatra.unanimously.

Clapton and Sinatra over Bob Dylan? Clapton I get but what songs did Sinatra write and what instruments did he play? What did he produce or arrange? Is this a musician poll or popularity contest? BTW I love Tom Petty but he ripped off Dylan so to put them in the same category is silly, without Dylan there is no Petty.

LMFAO Bob Dylan a flash in the pan compared to Frank Sinatra? Let's not get started on that. Reprise records was a success and Frank was no doubt successful and a truly golden voice, I have everything from his work with the Three Flashes to his Duets album. The Chairman of the Board however was not the songwriter Dylan is, the guitar player Clapton is or the story teller that Petty is. He is a great voice, a timeless voice with an unbelievable legacy and personality. His turn in From here to Eternity wasn't too bad either. He's just not the musician that the others are and that's what the poll is here. If we had a poll for best singers and pop culture icons he beats these guys, but as a p4p musician all three are better in that category.

With Jack Wolf and Hank Sanicola. This is common for singers later in their career to grab a writing credit or a co-credit.

Where are Bob Dylan, Tom Petty and Eric Clapton's flashing lights and gimics? The fact that I'm only thirty and arguing that Dylan blows anyone in this list out the water is unusual for someone my age. Most Dylan fans are collecting social security already and are within five years of your age.

hardcore im talking with several groups ive seen live on tv..rush the stones ozzie etc etc..again muscians wheres toscanni.the greatest conductor of them all who played several instruments to perfection.a unequaled genuis..yep this is a popularity contest.period..its impossible to name whos best due to several several different music genres..the best in a certain category or sub category maybe its possible.like rock n roll from 1950-1960 1960-70 there was a big change over the original rock.from 80-90 etc etc.see what i mean...this is not a list of the greatest of all time.it dont come close at all.again if rock n roll changed over a time frame of a little more then a decade to the point today its called rock n roll and it doesnt resemble it at all..but jazz does thewout the decades..again greatest muscians where toscanni..see what i mean..if big noise represents music lol.well...

The contest is between those named in it. Sinatra and Dylan were named in the contest so that's who we are to work with. I could sit here and argue that anyone from Tchaikovsky to Muddy Waters to Billie Holliday to Jeff Beck are better musicians than those named in the contest but they're not named so I'm working with what we have, and what we have is folks saying that Frank Sinatra is a better musician than Bob Dylan, I disagree so I'm going to make my case as to why. I also believe that we're comparing the Pop/Rock genres of the mid to late 20th century. Toscanini and Tchaikovsky don't really fit in here.

Sure have, big band stuff and show tunes, Cole Porter broadway soundtracks I associate with my mother cleaning the house when I was a kid. Probably my mothers absolute favorite (my mom is a huge theater buff).

She's also a Beatles fanatic.

im glad you see my point to a certain degree.in actuality its a period mostly of the last 30 years represented here more or less and again ..and sub categories even at that there are people not listed that are better or at least as good...i see your point also about the word muscian meaning playing a instrument and the names you have to work with here.artistry is something not mentioned at all...but lets not think this list represents the greatest of all time.it doesnt...if you want to choze and say theses are the best from just this list.ok..but best of what.its hard to caterigize what or where they belong in the first place...outside of groups where the beatles fall into.at least i feel they belong in that category.

Sure, the Beatles, The Beach Boys, Phil Spector etc. Dmar this list is really the fifty years or so. The Beatles came here in 1964!!! I hope I didn't make you feel old. LOL

Great debating with you on a different topic.
