Possible Sergio Martinez opponents
Alec (Nashville)
So who has diBella mentioned as possible opponents for Sergio Martinez? Anyone to get excited about?
Dan Rafael
(2:31 PM)
Nobody to get excited about. Manfredo, Ishida (NOOOOO!!), Rubio, Quillen, Darren Barker. DiBella would like to bring Sturm over to the US and put him on the undercard and set up a Martinez-Sturm fight in early 2012.
Peter Manfredo
Nubhiro Ishida
Marco Antonio Rubio
Peter Quillen
Darren Barker
Weak sauce.

Why not have SM fight someone dangerous? Have him go after Bute.

Because Martinez is a small MW and Bute is a LH who cuts down to SMW and is contractually tied to Showtime.

I think Martinez would beat Bute. I really like Bute though I just think Martinez is way too athletic for anyone right now.Ali wrote:Soonermark890 wrote:Why not have SM fight someone dangerous? Have him go after Bute.

Re: Possible Sergio Martinez opponents
I don't like the idea of Martinez at SMW, not unless it's for a big payday vs the lineal champion.

He better do something to get a big payday he is not a young fighter.Ali wrote:I don't like the idea of Martinez at SMW, not unless it's for a big payday vs the lineal champion.
Re: Possible Sergio Martinez opponents
really sooner??? what the fuck have you been smoking??? Bute is a massive 168lb fighter, Martinez started off as a 147lb fighter and is a pretty small middleweight. i'm confused by some of your recent comments and don't quite know whether you are being serious or not

Bute is having a keep busy fight during July in Romania, then in the fall he'll be facing Mikkel Kessler.

Guys at 168-all in super 6. Who isn't? Kessler and Bute. They are going to fight in the fall. Kessler is lining up his comeback fight. Bute has a stay busy fight in his homeland of Romania.
Showtime already started helping in the build up to it, with Kessler there for Bute's last fight.

Bute was fighting at 172-173 pounds when his career started. Martinez has been at 160 for a short period and is not exactly big for 160.
Martinez barely weighs 168 on fight night for his 160 fights. If he were to fight Bute or another top 168 guy he would be giving up 8-10 pounds on fight night.
Giving up 8-10 pounds on fightnight-that sounds like Pac. Of course, Pac picks a little carefully on who to give up weight to.

Re: Possible Sergio Martinez opponents
Dibella's "who is Pirog" sounds dumb as hell now. whos is Quillen or Barker? lmfao.
they don't want to fight him because he's not a big name AND he's dangerous.
in other words, if they don't take on another top 160 lber, and don't fight more than 2-3x a year, they are ducking PIrog, plain and simple

All the talent is spread thin because of the nich weight classes. Between Jr Middle through Super Middle. So no wonder Middleweight is barren
Why I got no problem with Martinez fighting between Middles and Jr Middles, considering he's a small Middleweight to begin with.

Re: Possible Sergio Martinez opponents
Yeah we have never seen a smaller extremely athletic fighter ever go up in weight and win right? Yeah thats never happened in boxing history right? Do me a favor and stop trying to insult people. If you want to disagree fine but stop the bullshit.dbudge wrote:really sooner??? what the fuck have you been smoking??? Re: Possible Sergio Martinez opponents
Martinez should be an active champ. He should fight 3-4 times a year. Do what BHop did. Go through everyone. The other trinket holders are insulated in Germany. Martinez should just go on a tear until people in Germany don't even think of them as champions.

BHOP benifited from getting a long term HBO contract. Which HBO and Showtime no longer do. It's a fight by fight situation, unless your with Al Hayman or GB in HBO's case.
