OMAR NINO GOT BEAT BY WHO?
Ring's #2 ranked 108 Omar Nino lost last night. And it wasn't jsut a case of bad judging. Nino was dropped twice during the fight.
Nino had recently defeated the #3 108 Rodel Mayol.
Who beat him? A guy named Gilberto Baas. WHO?
Baas is 34-20 but that may be somewhat deceiving. He had been fighting as high as 115 and this was only his second fight at 108 in the last few years. He's faced some serious guys like Brian Viloria, Edgar Sosa, Poskaklek Wonjonkam and Juan Esquer. One thing to love about Baas. This was his SIXTH fight in 2010.
From 2006-2009 Baas went 3-8-2 but he's 5-0-1 in 2010.
A fluke? Perhaps. We'll see. But in any case a HUGE upset.

Yea, before the weekend began I went to boxrec to read more about Nino's opponent. I was absolutely amazed when I saw the result and write up on fightnews.com this afternoon. Mind blowing.

Baas ins't a stiff. I mean he's gone the distance with some serious guys.
You on the other hand? You'd be a stiff

LOL! The closest I ever came to lacing them up as a pro was after watching Troy Dorsey and Jorge Paez fight for the title. I was certain I could beat BOTH of them at the same time, and maybe I could, but I also realized I would have to work my way up to them and by the time I got there, they would have already been knocked off............................ Shortest pro-career ever.

According to Dan the journeyman had previously beaten Nino when he was a 14-0 prospect.
