Ivan Calderon refuses to retire
Former champion Ivan Calderon intends to continue fighting. On Saturday in Mexicali, he suffered his second straight defeat, by knockout, in the third round of his bout with Giovani Segura. Calderon was also knocked out by Segura last August in Puerto Rico. The veteran boxer feels that there are other opportunities out there for him. He feels Seguara was too strong. Calderon came into the rematch at 113-pounds and Segura was 121-pounds by fight time.
"I do not intend to retire, because although I took some punches, I fought smart. Tomorrow is another day and there are other opportunities and I do not want to retire hurt, but with my head held high. I know that there aren't many names in the smaller weights, but I am still one of those who can sell, and I saw that on [Saturday] because it was a full house," Calderon told Jose Gordian.

Maybe but there is no denying that Ivan's rapidly declining. Even before Calderon fought Segura you could see him slowing down, didn't he have something like three head clash stoppages in a row ?

Re: Ivan Calderon refuses to retire
That was more his opponent than him
Cazares, similar to Segura almost had him in their first fight, but he beat him twice
Roman Gonzalez wants Segura and isnt even thinking about Iron Boy
He can go a few more years just have to match him properly, but I dont think much of a market for a UD machine like him

Now Calderon wants to drop back down to 105lb.

Former two division champion Ivan Calderon once again stated that he has no plans to retire. He will rest for a few months and most likely makes his return in October when the island of Puerto Rico will stage the Annual Convention of the World Boxing Organization. Calderon plans to fight at the 105-pound division, where he ruled with an iron fist until he decided to move up in weight - and then suffered his only two losses, with both of them coming to Mexico's Giovani Segura. Calderon was unable to deal with Segura's size and power. Segura made the division limit of 108, but came to ring at 121-pounds.
"My career continues. The most important thing is that I am with my family and most importantly is that I keep wanting to continue fighting. But I think I'm going down from 108 to 105. That's my natural weight and I'll look for the WBO title. I'll return at the WBO Convention. I will fight again this year and after a few weeks of rest I will go to the gym to maintain my weight," he added.
"[At 105], I will have the same strength and weight. I can take on [fighters] who weigh 112 but not those who weigh 127 pounds. I have a couple of years left. I give respect to Giovani. He's humble, "he said.
Calderon disucssed the three round knockout loss to Segura, which took place on Saturday in Mexicali.
"I was hurt. It was a good solid blow to the pit of my stomach and he injured my nose in the second round. I went to a knee and decided to stay there to wait for the count. I was not going to get hurt," he argued.

even before the first Segura fight he got hit more in his last 3-4 fights than I'd ever seen him hit. He's ancient for the lower weight classes.

Hes not shot and has only been beaten by one fighter in his whole career. If he wants to fight on then I say great. He doesn't need to retire.

I think he is going to meet a similar fate against much lesser fighters. It isn't as if he looked the same prior to the Segura fights. He was getting hit alot more than he used to. Clear evidence that he was slipping.

I don't agree, you can see the evidence of Calderon's decline in the previous fights leading up to the first Segura fight, he was getting slower and less mobile with each fight.

The two men who gave him trouble also where a lot bigger than him
Cazares and Segura, two aggressive Mexican brawlers
And only the younger and stronger one was able to really punish him. Credit to Segura's body attack, he was relentless

Watch the first Cazares fight and you'll witness Calderon in his prime.

I did, but Iron Boy also got dropped in that fight and was on his bicycle at the end to avoid the hard charging Cazares
