LAS VEGAS – Top Rank has won the first hurdle in the battle for the rights to promote burgeoning superstar Nonito Donaire.

Arbiter Daniel Weinstein, a retired California Superior Court judge, ruled Monday that Golden Boy Promotions violated a previous agreement with Top Rank not to poach each other’s fighters when it signed Donaire, the World Boxing Council/World Boxing Organization bantamweight champion, to a promotional agreement on March 16.

The biggest loser out of this clusterfuck will be Nonito, because he'll end up sitting on the bench while Golden Boy and Top Rank slug it out, so by the time this is finished the momentum from the Montiel fight will have almost evaporated.

It seems anytime Donaire gets momentum he ends up regressing career wise. I blame Rachel Donaire, she's not helping the Asian woman stereotype at all.

Maybe not. Seems things are getting settled pretty fast. I doubt GB is they had any brains will go any further, because they will only lose, and badily.

this could all work out as good PR for Arum and extremely bad PR for Golden Boy. if Donaire decides to abandon the case and stay with Arum, gets meaningful fights, paid well and sees out the rest of his contract then it will look good for Arum but bad for Golden Boy. other promoters/managers have to work with GBP and will see them as the guys poaching talent and not want to do business with them. Arum will always be top dog that way. i think Arum knows this and that he has the upper hand over Golden Boy as it stands

You think? Be interesting to see.

I'm rooting for King Kong to win and then Donaire fights him. Maybe the win will boost King Kong to 2nd spot over Moreno and a fight with Donaire can crown a new Champ

I just think Arum will live out the existing deal with tough fights, if he wins great, if he losses can keep dropping him down or throwing in difficult fights

Want to move up, fight WV2, Mikey Garcia, or send him to Japan to fight Toshiaki Nishioka

I dunno. I think Arum sees Donaire to be too valuable. I think he's going to use the extra time he's got to convince him if he wants a future, you stay with TR. Maybe promise him to be on undercard of a Pac fight. Shit like that.
