According to Top Rank's President, Todd duBoef, a WBA unification between the organization's two "super champions" at featherweight, is not likely to take place. DuBoef doesn't believe the fight is possible because of the high financial comfort that John receives for fighting at home in Indonesia. It would take a lot of money to lure John to the United States for a Gamboa clash, but there is no demand for the fight in the American market.

“We’ve reached out to Chris John’s people numerous times for his availability,” Top Rank president Todd duBoef said in an interview with Agence France-Presse. “There has been an undercurrent of him staying home in Indonesia because of his popularity there.

“Bringing him [to the United States] would be more difficult. Right now Chris has a very good market and he’s inclined to stay home and take full advantage of his popularity in Indonesia.”

John returns on April 17, in Indonesia, in a tough fight against countryman Daud Yordan.

i didnt even know the WBA had 2 super champions at 126. What a joke.

So i guess that takes away any mandatory situation between John and Gamboa.

Well, fine. John can stay in his country, be popular there, and be irrelevant everywhere else.

Besides, John doesn't matter. Gamboa needs to fight Lopez to be the new linear/Ring Champion at Featherweight.

What I don't understand is how Golden Boy are able to lure John over twice but Top Rank can't. Seems old Bob is getting prude with his earnings.

If John is such a moneymaker in his country why not put the fight there?

TR is probably worried bout Gamboa getting robbed and derailing a Gamboa-JuanMa fight.

Well, look at what happened to JMM when he did just that.

Thing is, you are guranteed to get robbed there. You are less likely to get robbed if it's in the US at a neutral location, with neutral judges. Not saying it doesn't happen. But just no way you will get a decision in John's backyard.

Boxing Lawyer already went over this in an older thread.

I thought most people who watched that one thought JMM lost?

He went over it for Germany. Which I find to be total bullshit. Of course the averages work against the US. There more fights that happen in the US
