Craig McEwan is now in play to replace the suddenly retired John Duddy vs Andy Lee on Match 12

Either makes sense for the St Pattys Day card

DiBella said he was speaking to HBO about a replacement opponent for Lee. He said he would like for it to be Peter Manfredo Jr. of Providence, R.I., whom DiBella promotes. Manfredo (37-6, 20 KOs), best known for his stint on the first season of "The Contender" reality series and a 2007 knockout loss to Joe Calzaghe in a super middleweight title bout, fought last week. He scored a unanimous decision win against Daniel Edouard in an action-packed "Friday Night Fights" main event on ESPN2.

If I have to, I will kidnap Peter Manfredo Sr. in an effort to prevent this.

Middleweight contender John Duddy has announced that he is retiring from boxing effective immediately, thus rejecting a $100,000 purse for a proposed March 12 showdown with Irish compatriot Andy Lee. “After a great deal of soul-searching, I have decided to retire from boxing,” said Duddy in a statement. “I no longer have the enthusiasm and willingness to make the sacrifices that are necessary to honor the craft of prizefighting. I used to love going to the gym. Now it’s a chore. I wish I still had the hunger, but I don’t. The fire has burned out. And I know myself well enough to know that it won’t return….I give you my word, I will not come back.”

sounds to me like duddy realized that he wasnt very good and doesnt want to further embarass himself. either way, i dont care how much i got tired of boxing, i would wait until my $100,000 payday until i retired.

Wow that was awful sudden, I guess losing to Chavez Jr will extinguish your burning desire to be a boxer.

They should just keep Lee on the card and match him with McEwan.
