Ricardo Cordoba's coach not in favor of JuanMa fight
Celso Chavez Jr., the coach of former champion Ricardo Cordoba, is not in favor of his boxer moving up to 126-pounds to challenge WBO featherweight champion Juan Manuel Lopez on April 16 in Puerto Rico. Chavez says his boxer is too small to face someone like Juanma at 126-pounds. He advised Juanma's camp to fight Celestino Caballero.
"I do not agree with this fight. If he climbs up to 126-pounds for Juanma Lopez, he's being led to slaughter. Actually, I don't think that it's appropriate to talk about that fight. If they want to fight a Panamanian, there is Celestino Caballero, a fighter who has always wanted to fight the Boricua" Chavez told Jorge Olmos.

Does this mean it wont happen?
Great to see Caballero in there, doubt it though.

Not sure, it's down to Cordoba and how much money is on the table.
I think he'll take it despite this.

Can we PLEASE get Juanma vs. Caballero in the ring now?
I mean there's all the reason to now. Uncle Bob saw how Cabs looked like doo doo against like a 10-1 underdog. Cab performed horribly in his last fight and has no room to balk about money splits or any of that stuff now. He's also getting up there in age. This fight makes sense right now, almost as much sense as it would have made when both guys were fighting at 122 but JML moved up.

I think Cab can still be a beast a 126 and I think his motivation for a Juanma fight would make him a dangerous opponent. I don't like it, but Juanma was given a free pass to avoid Caballero his whole career and not catch anymore heat for it. I think he takes it.

if anything the JML fanboys breathed a sigh of relief when they saw Litzau wax Caballero.
I don't want to make an excuse for Caballero but I think you may be right on the motivation thing. Maidana looked tired, disinterested and unmotivated against oldass DeMarcus Corley, and might have even escaped with a hometown decision.. but look how he behaved in the Khan fight. He got up from a body shot that would have made 99.99% of anyone just quit, and came back to make the fight close. Cab has wanted JML for years and all sorts of junk like money and location has gotten in the way.
Now that Cab has looked like crap in a fight he was supposed to win handily, he doesn't have the weight to demand any of those things.
