Khan's next fight a lock for England, Lineal fight targeted for July

At the post-fight press conference to Amir Khan's thrilling decision victory over Marcos Maidana, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer told BoxingScene.com that his plan is to have Amir Khan fight three times next year on HBO. The first fight would take place on an April date in England. HBO has already committed to a trip across the ocean to broadcast Khan's homecoming.

"We are looking at Amir fighting in England in April and then bringing him back to the United States in July. We will look for another date to finish out the year," Schaefer said to BoxingScene.com. "One of the names mentioned for April is Zab Judah."

BoxingScene caught up with Schaefer afterwards and he said that matching Khan with
tge Bradley-Alexander winner is a strong option for the July fight. Bradley-Alexander takes place on HBO on January 29th.

"We would be interested in exploring a fight with the Bradley-Alexander fight in July. We want to get Amir a fight back in England first," Schaefer said.

That'd be awsome, but there's no goddamn way GBP or Roach would go through with that. Outiside of Maidana and Bradley/Alexander, who else at 140 poses a threat to Khan? Fighting Maidana again would be to risk losing a shot at the lineal title if he were to lose. His next opponent will probably be someone he can bust up easily, and keep him sharp for the eventual big championship fight at 140. I don't mind really, as long as he does actually fight the winner of Bradley-Alexander.

That isn't to say I don't want to see a rematch, I most definitely do, but realistically, there's no fuggin way they throw Khan in with Maidana again before he fights Alexander or Bradley.

I think it's a good idea to have the fight in England after terrible gate the Khan fight got in Vegas.

Promoters just need to stay away from Vegas right now. It's ground zero for the recession. People are broke and don't want to travel to a city that is built on taking your money

I agree. I'm actually quite shocked GBP wants to try and make The heavyweight champ's beatdown of 13 in Vegas. I guess Schaefer is thinking the couple of million more that HBO will pay for a fee will offset the loss of gate.

I understand wanting to have the fight in the US. It will get better numbers in US if it's here.

But it's stupid to have it in Vegas. Should have it at Madison Square. New York is the media capital.

Then again, media propbably can careless about Wlad. They hyped him up a lot when fought Sultan at Madison Square, and that fight was one worst HW fights I've ever seen.

The thing is, the casinos are still willing to pay the big site fees - that's why they keep landing the big fights

Who do you guys like for Khan's next fight? I honestly wouldn't mind Prescott even though that is a mismatch at this point. Zab and JMM both would bring money and interest. Would Khan fight a British WW? I think there are a couple that could be fun and generate some cash.

The only British Welterweight out there who might be approved by HBO is Kell Brook, but he's promoted by Frank Warren and is in line for the WBO belt so that seems unlikely.

Prescott name keeps coming up, If I were Khan I'd want to avenge that loss after gaining so much confidence from the Maidana fight.

I like any of the guys I've mentioned in the other post or Prescott. I think he could easily market a revenge fight, and build the promotion by saying he would settle for nothing less than a KO. I would want to see that. Or if he can drag JMM to England that's another idea.

Judah-Mabuzza seem to be tied up. Bradley-Peterson-Kotelnik-Matthysse-Urango are coming off poor showings or losses.

The more I think about it Prescott makes the most sense.

MSG basically said to hell with the K brothers after the Ibragimov debacle. The Ukrainian fans from Brighton Beach were booing that one. I was there (got free tickets), it was terrible. I think I posted my dissatisfaction over at ESPN after that.

The only thing that kept us awake was that John Duddy fought like a drunk Irish pub brawler and received the worst cuts I've ever seen live. It looked like Smichet had hatchets in his gloves. Other than that it was terrible.

That's when I realized that Duddy is nothing more than a novelty act. Something to get the Irish immigrants in the Bronx and Queens excited about. He should really turn his attention to promotions because he's an excellent promoter. He sells most of the tickets for his fights and he got himself on the Wlad card.
