THE RETURN OF HASEGAWA
Former 118 strapholder Hozumi Hasegawa returned last night from hi knockout loss at the hands of Fernando Montiel. The way he came back is fascinating. He skipped 122 and jumped all the way to featherweight and took on unbeaten Mexican Juan Carlos Burgos.
A WBC vacant strap was on the line...well of COURSE it was, one guy was not ranked and the other had never fought in the division.
Hasegawa, a southpaw, found a home for his straight counter left after catching Burgos' jabs and won a wide decision. A deep division just got deeper.

Good bounce back for the samurai. He moved up weight divisions old school style lol, beat an undefeated prospect. Good for him.

Re: THE RETURN OF HASEGAWA
lmao sometimes these Japanese commentators make guys like Gus Johnson sound like a calm, stoic individual. I think one of the fight callers is Nishioka (they keep saying that name), the dude who beat Munroe last month.
Hasegawa is a fun fighter to watch and he really went to work on Burgos with that left hand. But one of the major things he needs to work on is either tightening up those hooks or just not throwing them at all.. if he hooks like that against a JML he eats the canvas. That's how he got hurt against Montiel; he went for a looping left shot against a big puncher. He looks comfortable at this weight though. I think those 8 lbs he gained went to his calves lol. they look like little tree trunks!
thanks for posting

There really is a logical four man tourney at 126 isn't there?
John-Hasegawa in Tokyo, Gamboa-JuanMa in Miami and the winners meet halfway in between. Let's see that'd be, carry the one, MAUI!

That would actually be a fun fight to watch...maybe they can set up a Wii or PS3 with the motion sensors so neither guy will have to leave their own country.
Hasegawa put on an impressive performance but I don't think he's strong enough to handles the top dogs at 126. He can still always get stronger now that he's moved up though. However, he might have to travel if he wants a belt at his new weight. I was shocked that Burgos didn't go to the body at all. I would've loved to hear what his corner was telling him.
Great quality on the vids.
