Bundrage-Spinks Rematch Heading To Guerrero-Aydin Bill
The mandatory rematch between IBF junior middleweight champion Cornelius Bundrade (31-4, 18KOs) and ex-beltholder Cory Spinks (39-6, 11KOs) is heading to a date of July 28th in San Jose, California. Bundrage stopped Spinks in five rounds to win the title in August of 2010.
Golden Boy Promotions came out on top at Tuesday morning's purse bid at the IBF's office in New Jersey. Golden Boy entered a winning bid of $211,000 dollars, while Don King was the only other bidder and placed in a bid of $51,000.
The IBF was then advised that Golden Boy is planning to stage the fight on the July date in San Jose, which is headlined by a welterweight clash for the vacant WBC interim-title - with Robert Guerrero moving up by two weight divisions to challenge Selcuk Aydin in a Showtime televised main event.

Re: K9 vs. Cory Spinks II set for June 23rd
we already saw (or dodged as didn't want to see it), K-9 and Boring cory spinks.
Guerrero moving up to fight Aydin isn't a great fight either. If Guerrero wins it won't say too much about his chances at 147 as Aydin is relatively unknown. If Aydin wins it won't really say that he is going to become a real player at 147 as he is facing a guy who is moving up multiple weight classes to face him.
Showtime and HBO show only so many shows a year. And these 2 fights are the basis of 1 show???? The networks don't get it. If these two fights are the basis of a show then there should be an enticing 3rd fight that fans really want.

Didn't K9 knock seven bells out of Spinks the first time ?
I saw that from about 25 feet from the ring and it was a dominant performance. K9 came out active and accurate but I thought Spinks was starting to get in the fight a little more in the 3rd and 4th. I was expecting him to use his weakening legs to come back and win a decision but K9 ran him over in the 5th. It was a mugging.
I know we don't like talking about trinkets here but it is interesting to me that GB will have the WBC and WBA belts at welter and TR will have the IBF and WBO. This makes it even easier for PBF and Pac to avoid each other. They can go for "unification" matches with stablemates.

LAS VEGAS -- In an unexpected outcome, Golden Boy Promotions won a purse bid on Monday to gain promotional rights to the mandatory rematch between junior middleweight titlist Cornelius "K9" Bundrage and former titleholder Cory Spinks.
Golden Boy does not promote either fighter but still bid on the fight, offering $211,011. That bid blew away the only other offer of $51,000 from Don King, who promotes Bundrage and Spinks.
"We like the fight and we are very interested in the 154-pound weight class," Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer told ESPN.com. "I feel that at that price it's a good buy. If I see a fight which I like, a fight I think if you can buy for a reasonable price that fits in our strategy, I will buy it."
"Golden Boy's main focus are the 140-, 147- and 154-pound weight classes," Schaefer said. "That doesn't mean we are ignoring the others but those divisions are where the big fights are. We want to put together some great 154-pound fights, so this fight fits in with what we want to do. We put in what I considered a reasonable bid. For Don King to bid only $51,000 is a joke."."

K9 would make for a decent opponent sometime for some GB fighter but Spinks is hard to watch now. I've had the "pleasure" to see 3 of his fights live and he doesn't have much left.

Wait so outside promoters can actually bid on these purse bids ?

That's what it is, a bid. Basically whatever promoter puts up the most cash for the fight. Rarely has it been a promoter not involved with either fighter.

Interesting, It's a nice back up plan to beef up your undercards.
