Madison Square Garden, New York - Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum is not even going to consider a possible fight between Yuriorkis Gamboa and Brandon Rios (29-0, 22KOs). Gamboa was toying with the idea of moving up by two weight divisions to challenge Rios for the WBA lightweight title. Rios had trouble making the lightweight limit on Friday for his scheduled fight with John Murray. Rios was stripped of the belt, but stopped Murray in eleven rounds. The next move for Rios is a jump to junior welterweight and a possible clash with Mike Alvarado (32-0, 23KOs).

"You not see Brandon Rios at 135 again. He could pretty much fight anybody [at 140], but I think pretty much the most exciting fight that could be made is Brandon Rios against Mike Alvarado. Boy would that be a fight. I'd pay to see that fight," Arum said.

It will be a war and it will be a very dangerous fight for Rios. Alvarado will be able to hurt Rios, Im not sure if Rios could do the same. That fight with Prescott should Alvarado is one tough SOB. Rios thought Acosta punches hard, Alvarado hits harder.

but alvarado isnt a great boxer. he will be easier to find.

i really dont think that alvarado wins this unless alvarado boxes more than usual. i cant see him beating rios in a slugfest.
