Roger Federer's Last Stand? Empty Roger Federer's Last Stand?

The last tourney of the year for the ATP is the Finals. It really is the 5th biggest event and the biggest out of all non-Slam tournaments. I really like the set up of 2 RR groups of 4 setting up a semifinal. Anyways, I think Federer has played better near the end of the year but will be another year older next year. Is this one of the last hurrahs of the man currently considered the GOAT?

Cripes I've been trying to write the man off for three years now.

Sure he's in decline, but what a glorious decline it has been!

Federer is one of the greatest athletes in this generation and very classy to top it off. Somewhat of a secret what if in tennis is what if they didn't slow down wimbledon and other surfaces in his reign? I think he has 3 or 4 more slams but it is what it is. I'd like to see him win this WTF and at least get 1 more Aussie and Wimbledon. Then let Nadal do his thing.

I hear ya but I'm VERY glad they slowed down Wimbledon at least. That tournament had devolved into just a serving contest. It had become unwatchable in comparison to the far more varied games one saw in the Borg, Mcenroe days. The raquets have simply become too good. Growing up the best tennis was on grass and the clay stuff was just awful. It almost reversed there for a while. I think they have all the surfaces about right at this point.

One of the things Federer embodied that is really rare even at the highest levels of sport is physical grace. He always gliiiiiides. In comparison Nadal is a gorilla on the court. The way he thunders around I am surprised he hasn't broken down more.

Federer whips Murray and looks like a lock for the semis. It could get interesting. Nadal's win puts him with a good chance at the semis as well. If Djokovic beats Nadal, we could have a Federer-Nadal semi.

No doubt. We are lucky to have witnessed both he and Sampras in our lifetimes.

Aussie Open should be a lot of fun next year. Rafa goin for a Rafa Slam. Federer trying to extend the Slam record and prove he is still a force. Murray probably starting to get nervous about winning a slam. Then there's Djokovic who knows how he'll be. Soderling will be one to keep an eye out for and Del Potro will come in unranked.
