A smaller budget is not the issue, it's how poorly it's used. Showtime got a fraction of HBO's current budget and dollar for dollar puts on better match-ups. Same with FNF, and they got jack shit as far as budget.
I'd be fine if they took a chunk of HBO's budget and put fights on TNT or TBS

I suppose back then HW fights were still relevant and expensive. Plus wasn't Budweiser a sponsor back then ?

Plenty of double headers and known names though
Lennox, Wlad, Hopkins, Prince Nazeem, Tito, Winky, Vargas, MAB, Morales, Floyd, Spadafora, Forrest, Corrales, DLH, Roy Jones
Compare that to now...

Todays budget is just sad compared to 11 years ago. They should really add I bit more cash for more fights. I'd like to see double headers everytime (evern some triple headers) and at least 2 HBO cards a month. I know they spend a lot on some of these fighters to appear (Arreola, Williams, Berto and Martinez), but they should just put on fighters that would be a lot cheaper. they could still have quality fights. Put Segura, Roman Gonzalez, Tyson Marquez and other smaller guys in these low bidget cards to get more bang out of your buck HBO.

I disagree. Why should they get a bigger budget when under the former managment they where incompetant with the one they had.
They were out-bidding themselves for christ sake for fights. From what I read from Fat Dan, Showtime rarely spends more then 300-500k for a top Showtime Championship fight. HBO's spends more than that for Berto vs some bum.
Look at all the fights Showtime and FNF put on with not even a fraction of HBO's current budget.
