ESPN needs to do PPVs again
Apparently something went terribly wrong with this card they chose to dump doing PPVs entirely
Reportedly did around 200k buys
If they used FNFs as their main platform and offered card like these again, it would be great for the sport IMO

"We are thrilled to offer our fans such a high quality card - a truly great value for the avid and causal boxing fan," said Matt Murphy, ESPN senior vice president, broadband and interactive sales. "Our expertise in event production, coupled with the quality of Main Events cards, ensure viewers will receive excellent entertainment with our April 23 event. ESPN’s unique ability to cross-promote across our numerous multi-media platforms will benefit the entire boxing community, as well as our affiliates in their pay-per-view marketing efforts."
Main Events CEO Kathy Duva said, “Two world title fights, plus Shane Mosley and an intriguing heavyweight match-up for $29.95?! The big winners will be boxing fans.”

Re: ESPN needs to do PPVs again
The problem was, ESPN realy did nothing to promote that PPV. Sure, they had adds going on FNF which as we know is on ESPN2, not regular ESPN. That is pointless. Only hardcore fans watch FNF, and they already knew about the fight. FNF back then got like 200-300k viewers.
This is like when I said 24/7s have become pointless on just regular HBO. All you're doing is showing stuff to hardcore fans who already know about the PPV and have alread made up their minds on whether or not to get it.
For any PPV to be a success, you got to appeal to the casual fan. The ones that don't tune into FNF, or HBO to watch boxing programs.
