Fres Oquendo vs Oliver McCall set for Dec 7th
Former NABA Heavyweight Champion, ‘Fast’ Fres Qquendo, steps into the ring on December 7th against former World Heavyweight Champion Oliver McCall, for a 12rd IBF (inter-continental) title clash, at the world famous Hard Rock Casino, in Hollywood, Florida. Promoted by The Heavyweight Factory in association with, Square Ring Promotions and 5th Street Gym Promotions.
Oquendo’s only loses, all highly questionable, have been to World Champions, his fight against James ‘Lights Out’ Toney in 2008 and Jean-Marc Mormeck this year (2010) have been hailed as robberies of the year.
“This is not going to be an easy fight acknowledges Oquendo…McCall, is and always has been a dangerous fighter, and should not be underestimated, especially being a former World Champion.” “I want to thank the IBF for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to fight for this prestigious belt.”
McCall is one of only 2 men to beat and KO Lennox Lewis. Barring his 5th round rematch breakdown against Lewis, McCall has never been stopped and has never failed to see the distance in 64 professional bouts. Oquendo, has twice fought for the Heavyweight title, also has gone the distance and has not been stopped in 7 years.
Oquendo stopped the spoiler Demetrice King, (whose only stoppage in 33 bouts before that was to Shannon Briggs) to win the IBF USBA title back in February of this year, but had to relinquish it to fight Jean-Marc Mormeck. Oquendo also had to relinquish his NABA belt, now held by Timur Ibragamov who will be fighting in the Co-Main event that evening.
