I don't know a hell of a lot about the southpaw Argentinian Flyweight. He's 35 years old, is 32-0-2 and had a gazillion defenses of his 112 strap before moving up. He got started as a pro VERY late as he was an Olympian at 25. He also has rarely left Argentina (not necessarily a problem as Argentina has a vibrant boxing culture) and has fought only a couple of ranked guys.

As I watch him I see a well schooled fighter. Excellent jab, hands up, snapping straight left. His defense is a bit odd and he squares up a bit too much and his footwork is, um, unconventional, but he's not a bad technician.

In the past it hasn't been unusual for Argentine greats to wait a long time before leaving their comfort zones. It was true of both Carlos Monzon and Pascual Perez. But they both did broaden themselves. It doesn't look like Narvaez will do that. It's too bad. It looks like he's going to be another Khaosai Galaxy.

If anybody knows more about Narvaez I'd love to hear it.

Here's some video of Narvaez fighting ranked Brahim Asolum in France. Narvaez is the guy with the dark marks on his trunks and without the mini-ponytail.

He reminds me of Sergio Martinez. He spends some time with his hands completely rested at his side in the fights I saw. Also, he's very upright in a lot of his punches and prefers straighter punches. He will throw a punch regardless of foot positioning: with both feet parallel, off one foot, moving backwards, moving forwards, mid step. The main difference being he's much more aggressive and stronger for his division.

Couldn't get much info on him but he's been boxing from a young age.
