EMILE GRIFFITH DIES AT 75.
a 3 time welter and 2 time middle champ when the title was real and one champ per division.griffith indeed was a great one and a hofamer that deserves to be there..always in fantastic shape griff was a complete fighter who could do everything well.
I remember me seeing him fight for the first time.he headed the garden in his 17th pro fight fighting a good fighter in gasper Ortega who had about 70 fights under his belt.i was amazed at the completeness of this kid.boxed flawless cut the ring off with expertize great balance and knowledge of distance awesome skill level etc etc.he did it all well and with a completeness that perhaps only a few fighters of today have and they didn't have it in there 17th fight.
he fought guys that folks back then hesitated to fight.today the part time fighters would head for the hills with the names of monzon twice dick tiger twice Florentine Fernandez jose napoles luis Rodriguesz 5 times hurricane carter..add to that nino benvenutti 3 times benny kid paret 3 times issac logart .gave gypsy joe harris his first loss.ralph dupas bennie Briscoe twice and 15 other guys who mearly where just good.joey archer twice denny moyer twice joe dennucci twice etc etc.
a PROVEN great fighter he indeed was.today the word great is tossed around so loosely I say realy.why.based on what.
like greats of boxing griff fought for perhaps 3 years after he should of hung them up.even then he had a ring presence about him that a first time guy would say this guy knows what hes doing.
griff was a admitted bi-sexual a no no big time in that era where you where looked upon as a person with leprocy..a outcast in society.griff just let the bullshit roll off like water off the back.
he was a very personable guy who truly loved the sport.a real champ and a real credit to the game.

Watch Ring of fire. That is a good start. I watched that and 4-5 fights on youtube about a year ago. I need to learn more.

Thank God, I thought I made an error and erased this most valuable post. Either somebody corrected my blunder or I just have too much on my mind at the moment.
Either way, Emile was a great, great fighter and I'm proud to say he was an all time great in a sport that I hold very close to my heart.
Great post, Dmar.
