Re: Damn tornadoes
What scared us in Choctaw is that it was headed straight for us next but it just turned and went east and went back up. I have heard from two more friends that lost their houses. Both had insurance so they should be ok. My buddy is holding up pretty well considering he lost his mom. I hope the meteorologist are wrong because they said we are up for round 3 friday and saturday. I know we live in tornado ally but shit.
Re: Damn tornadoes
Sorry to hear Mark, at lest you and your family were okay. My buddy came back home from Shawnee, Oklahoma last week. His school semester (or quarter) just ended, so luckily for him he wasn't there during the awful storm. I was reading some interesting opinions on Tornadoes and there's a debate whether or not "global warming" is apart of the reason for these recent strong storms over recent years. Do the increased emissions of CO2's strengthen Tornadoes? Whether you believe in global warming or not, the planet is experiencing higher temperatures and it is strengthening Hurricanes at least.

Re: Damn tornadoes
A bunch of us have been talking about the strength and how many F4 and F5's there have been recently. Its a huge difference. The one in Shawnee I watched go by and it was an F4. Then the next day an F5 in Moore. Its crazy I think global warming has to be playing a factor.Diego408 wrote:Sorry to hear Mark, at lest you and your family were okay. Re: Damn tornadoes
I'm not an expert on "global warming" or "climate change".
I do know that the republican discussion of it pisses me off. Whenever it snows or is colder than expected, they say, "see global warming is a hoax."
Or when a democrat refers to it as "climate change", Republicans act as if the democrat had to change the name of it because people saw that warming wasn't taking place.
All the while I know full well that Frank Luntz, a Republican pollster and "self-proclaimed wordsmith" came up with the idea of always referring to things as "climate change". He said that "global warming" was too scary, and that "climate change" was easier for people to hear (and also then they could argue that climate is always changing-which is probably true to a degree).
Apparently scientists said originally that "global warming" was part of "climate change", a larger concept that included more than just rising temperatures.
I don't know how much Democrats exaggerate the science. I do think Republicans don't really want to discuss the merits of the issue. Rather they are trying to say it is a hoax. Which would be great if it they are right, but I'm worried as hell at the repercussions if they are dead wrong.

Read Brian Fagan. Yes, the Earth goes through cycles but not this fast and not this extreme.
