ok we have run out of excuses.when the big fights come talk will return.donaire-rigo rios-alvarado alvarez-trout fury -cunninham etc etc all have come and gone.ditto pac-marquez..Martinez Floyd froch all fighting very soon yet no talk..first welcome back again hardcore a fine poster..the same 6 or 7 or so very active guys like pp myself captain panther diego etc etc cannot keep the board alive.we lost grant for what reason not known gomez tobe rum all active guys not posting here..debudge has disappeared.we need them back plus 2 or 3 sane posters with knowledge of at least todays fighters or we are doomed.even frank checks in daily but says very very little on our topics..look forget a east side boxing or a espn or a ninja.there either too big or loaded with insanity.a small intimate but active group like we had before is perfect.
we need our former members that were active back plus a few more and we will be ok..bird was decent but is gone for a long while..
my pm doesn't work good.can somebody please get in touch with thoses guys as a start..
myself I gave up on the sticky topic of good fighters of the past that were not well known to members .why.well if no one gives a fuck about the fighters of today then why would anyone want to learn about history.
inactivity at a snails pace will doom this board.myself in not interested in going anywhere else.been there done that.i enjoy the intimacy of this board but guys this is killing us..we got 50 plus members that posted zero or once.get ride of them.who are we kidding with a membership of 100 plus.
please pm any good former poster to return.scot Levin dagovener etc etc and if you can think of a quality sane poster invite them.as of now ill bet some of us feel we are talking just to ourselves.i know I feel like that sometimes..
a clue of the doom we face is that several on here are also football fans.zero talk after the super bowl.

Dmar, I'd be happy to write stories about older fighters, fights, things of that nature.

At the "present" time, I'm tired of boxing's bullshit. However, I'm interested in what you guys have to say about present day fights. (Also, I'm working like hell on a new project.)

I'm not trying to bring down the spirit of the board or get into a debate. These are just my honest feelings.

I still feel like Sooner is doing a great job. Also, you and the guys you mentioned are keeping things running around here. I really appreciate the effort you guys are putting in.

frank like you ive been feed up with boxings bullshit and politics for years.im sure we are not alone.4 or 5 champs in one division by the same phoney commission.phoney weight classes and the jumping of classes .gain 7-pounds and your in 3 weight classes.add that to golden -boy top rank games and phoney mandatories and litterly 50 other solid valid reasons of boxings self destruct by these incompetent invalid ruling bodies..dispite that there are some good decent fighters and fights.thoses fights and fighters is what keeps us loyal fans.
again we al watch the fights.sometimes a few days after the fight yet no comments or thougts.no one is that busy that a few times a week spend 10 minutes and disguss something.
again inactivity spells doom.we need our former active guys back plus a few more and we will be ok.

THIS BOARD IS TOOOO DAM DEAD. Empty Re: THIS BOARD IS TOOOO DAM DEAD.

Post  Frank Sat Apr 27, 2013 9:40 am

What is the board lacking action?

I can only answer for myself.

For me, it has nothing to do with the board. I've made friends here and I talk to them via PMs and the like. Even if there's nothing going on in the sport, friends are priceless, even those you never meet. LOL

Dmar, this is what the problem is for me and boxing. I'll try to make it as plain as I can.

Boxing is a brutal sport with the object being to hit your opponent in the head until he's knocked the hell out. It can be very depressing. Why has this sport caught my imagination since I was 8 or 9 years old? Great fighters and Super Fights.

When two great fighters meet, it's pure magic. My favorite part of the evening is right before they enter the ring. If you've ever visited the closed circuit arenas before the invention of PPV, or you've been lucky enough to see a big fight in person, you know what I'm talking about.

The smell of the beer, the crowd in unison cheering for their respective fighter, the danger involved, knowing that you're actually invovled in some kind of history. All the pre fight hype coming to an end. This is boxing.

No fighters or fights are around now to give me that magical feeling. The feeling of a kid in an amusement park. That strange feeling you got in your stomach from your fist rollar coster ride. There's no fight on the horizon that can do that for me. Not one.

I'll stick around because I know just as good times never last forever, bad times are finite too.

Sometimes, I can psyche myself out to the point where I turn on a past super fight and try to imagine the feelings I had when I saw it for the first time. Sometimes it works for a few rounds. LOL

I've had 4 cups of coffee so I'm probably speaking too much here, however I do believe that most things go in circular motion. That is to say that boxing will somehow return to it's former state, even if it's underground. Hell, at this point, I'll take greatness anyway I can get it. However, make no mistake about it. I was raised on great fights and KO Boxing Magazine and I will settle for nothing less.

I'm not being difficult. If I could excite myself over the present bullshit, I would. I can't, but I will stay on here with my fellow boxing comrades and do all I can to add to this site. I was here when it was invented and I know the work that went into this.

Dmar, there's a special feeling when your favorite fighter is going into the ring and you're literally scared for his life. I experienced this with Ali (Before the Foreman fight. Even before the 2nd Spinks fight.) ,Leonard (I feared for his life before the 1st Hearns fight and the Hagler fight), Hagler vs. Hearns (before this fight, I had no Godly idea who the hell was going to win.,) Tyson - Holyfield (Hell, I'll take the bite over the bullshit they're handing us today.), etc.

As BB King once said, "The Thrill is Gone....." ... at least for now. I know what caused Boxing's present day condition, but I'm not going back to the hellish, never ending debate. I'll just say that this sport is so damn amazing, the memories affect me as much as present day sporting events. Hell, I'm not even a memory lane type guy. I hate thinking of the past where my life is concerned, but I'll watch past boxing events again and again.

My childhood was not the happiest in the world, however Boxing was my sanctuary. I forgot about everything and concentrated on the event at hand. It was my passion (along with movies) while I was growing up. I'm not worried about the sport. As I said, it will return to its former state

frank no doubt the magic and excitement of a big fight isn't there.i share your frustration.look ive seen the closed circuit fights before ppv as you mentioned as well as several of the fighters involved in them fight in person.dam Marciano-moore liston-clay hearns leanard hearns -haggler duran leanord 1 ali-frazier basilio -robinson haggler -leonard basilio-demarco dam the list of magic is endless and it rarely disappointed.yes whats considered a important fight today was routine every Friday or wensday night on tv..
the golden era or eras is gone forever.anyone who thinks otherwise is wrong because one major reason why the eras were golden was a abundance of talent.plenty of greats near greats and dam good fighters fighting often against each other.the best against the best all the time.a great welter fighting a great middle happened often or a top welter vs a top middle also and no one bitched geez the guys to big.a whole 8 pounds or so.today 7 or 8 pounds means is some cases a jump of 4 phoney divisions.
like you I get so frustrated when I see a talent with potential greatness or near greatness fight 2 or 3 times a year at best and at times against hand picked matchmaking.im frustrated to see a broner a ward go to waste.i love the athletic Sergio Martinez and his great attitude.i hold my breath when he takes chances with hands down chin out.
there realy in all honesty isn't more then 1 fighter that excites me.thats Martinez.not Floyd with his convient retirements to avoid fights.not alvarez and the excuse hes young.at 22 pep was a seasoned pro and a real champ.so was canzanerri benetiz ali Tyson Patterson and others.hell max baerwas washed up at 25 or 26..
the lack of balls yes balls of todays guys .balls I mean robinson gavilyn greb hell look at fullmers last 11 fights.all bad ass dangerous guys..
dispite that we are loyal fans..i understand your reasons and I agree fully with your thoughts.
most of us are fans dispite the 1001 shortcomings of the game today..
maybe in my case I keep clutching on hope.

Dmar, I agree 100 percent with everything you said, except that the sport will never return. I can't begin to tell you the how and the why, but I just can't believe that the former greatness is gone forever. I can't argue this point. I guess like you, I'm just really hoping.

i agree. despite the problems that people had with ali, he always posted. he was by far the most active poster. grant was also a very active poster.

i do agree with you though dmar. i really liked the personalization of the board before. we all knew each other and there were not too many or too few posters. now there are too few.

In my honest, unbiased opinion, we need more posters like that guy boxinggenius. He is amazing! lol jokes aside, you cant have a more active board without more posters. its a double edged sword, no one is going to post here like its a full time job, but you need more people dropping in their two cents to keep it alive. in terms of restricting it to only what some of us brand "knowledgable posters" is a bit thickheaded IMO. sure some of us know more than others about the sport, but i personally enjoy reading different opinions and insights on fights and fighters. its interesting to me to see how some one else breaks down a fight, cuz we all view them in different ways. I'm not the most active poster here but Im a boxing addict and read every and any board i can find lol

It's tough. There isn't a whole lot of time for me to watch these days. And when I watch it's only the bigger fights, so I'm not sure about where these guys I'm watching actually rank in terms of talent compared to the hype they receive.

Well, I always felt that if we wanted this board to come alive, we could easily turn it into a boxing mag that held no punches on the bullshit going on in boxing today.

People are getting away with murder (PEDs, bad decisions, etc) and we just accept it. However the net is the most powerful tool we've ever had to challenge any type of power. Just look at Anonymous.

There's no magical solution to anything and a boxing mag would be hard work. I could add articles. That's about it at this point.

However, whether you'd like to admit it or not, boxing is not the legitimate sport it used to be. Not at all.
