Steve Kim tweeted that Golden Boy Promotions didn't want to match up Broner with fighters Showtime wanted, so that's why Broner was with HBO and they were stuck with those mismatches. HBO was basically willing to pay a lot $$ for misses matches that Showtime wasn't stupid enough to pay for. Sooner or later Broner would have left to Showtime and all that money HBO invested in Broner would have went to waste. That's why HBO passed on Broner vs Paulie.

I think this is horrible news. Now Top Rank and GBP are more divided than before. Its rare to see GBP and Top Rank fighters to face off as it is (last time I saw one was Gamboa vs Ponce years ago) now that they are divided by networks, this cold war will last a very long time. Ultimately, this harms the boxing fans which is us.

we have two defacto boxing leagues.

GB will eat up at least 75% of showtime dates.

HBO will eat up at least 75% of hbo dates.

Guys like Ward and Martinez (and a few others who aren't with either company) will end up with the rest of the dates.

We now have 2 defacto boxing leagues.

If we have leagues now, whose Dana White? Bob, Oscar or Schafer?

lol.

the guys that are with promotional companies other than TR/GB are going to have leverage. They can play HBO/Sho against each other. Any action fighter that isn't with those two companies is going to be gold as GB/TR will need those guys as opponents.

this is ridiuclous. there is now even more of a divided boxing world. promoters and networks are ruining everything. maybe we need boxing to just completely crash so that somebody who really wants to help the sport will then build it back up to what it should be.

I imagine TR and GBP will try to squeeze guys like that out and force them to sign with them (Ward, Martinez, Froch etc).

Martinez-no one is going to make him do anything. He only has a few fights left and he does seem to understand that.

Andre Ward is calling fights for HBO. He will be able to get on there when he wants.

As for Froch, he isn't going to sign shit. He fights in Europe and GB/TR aren't going to try to bully him when he isn't that likely to fight in US. He has talked about a Ward rematch in the UK.

Im glad that they cut ties. There shouldnt be any ties between promoters and HBO. They should just push for the best fights and show them

hate this move for both of them, golden boy has the best fighters and hbo puts on the best shows. this doesnt open the door for better fights, it closes it. now the divide between gbp and top rank is even wider. the network the fights will be on is now another obstacle. heck sergio isnt with either and he already told canelo if they fight it HAS to be on hbo. fighters should not sign exclusive contracts with networks, let them bid against each other for each and every fight
