Floyd Mayweather Jr. is in negotiations to fight Devon Alexander
Mayweather tweeted this himself last night. Just a couple of weeks ago he tweeted the Robert Guerrero fight was a rumor. Al Haymon manages both and looks like he is the main reason for this bogus fight. Alexander just a week ago pulled out of the Kell Brook fight claiming an "injury". This is Bullshit. Alexander vs Brook and Guerrero vs Mayweather looked like two good fights, but now Mayweather vs Alexander ruined both possible match ups and the fight is crap itself. Alexander vs Mayweather will put everyone watching it to asleep. It would be like Wlad fighting John Ruiz.

diego i agree with everything you said.its unbelievable for sure..RG earned a shot at floyd.lets see what developes.if this turns out to be true alexander is not going to say no.where was floyds big announcement on super bowl day who hes fighting next.rg had the inside track insiders felt but alvarez chances was improving and bradleys name pops up.now alexander..game playing at its worse.the drama queen strikes again.

IBF reportedly says they won't sanction the fight (althought that could change or isn't accurate). Some online sources are saying that the Alexander fight isn't likely to happen and RG is the frontrunner.
Who knows.
I'd guess that Alexander was in the running with RG, Floyd could possibly get Alexander to sign for less money and/or thinks he would be an easier fight, and Floyd floated this out there to get an idea of the reaction from fans and media (floated a trial balloon).
Who would you rather fight if you had Floyd's skillset and current physical abilities?
While Alexander is damn quick, he is predictable. I remember as far back as the Kotelnik fight posting that Alexander: (a) was usually on offense or defense without great transition between the 2(which is good for Floyd); (b) Alexander throws the same shots over and over. He'll use the same combination attempts repeatedly; (c)-Alexander doesn't adapt well; (d) Alexander's trainer is totally useless. When Floyd changes gears around round 4 and starts countering Alexander, how will advice like, "do what you do", really help?????

Devon KO3...just kidding. I was hoping this was the end game for Devon but he needs a little more momentum behind him, more activity, and Mayweather to slow down even more. Cap said it right in my book. I think of Alexander as a less accomplished Dawson. Both have the physical talent and skills yet cannot think in there. If boxers were forced to go plan a vs plan a, Devon might be truly elite. The fact that people go to plan b means he is in trouble. Mayweather is one of the few guys that not only can go plan b, he could go to plan f.

Just more proof that Floyd's ego is out of control. He is no longer relevant to me, so I don't hang on his every word in anticipation of his next debacle. I'm done with this guy.

I think he and Dawson are different.
Dawson does have a decent understanding of boxing. He just doesn't have the right mental makeup in terms of desire and aggressiveness.
I am not trying to insult Alexander but:
Alexander doesn't really understand how to box. He knows how to move around and throw fast punches. He isn't a pure boxer. He is just a quick guy that moves around a ring well and then can move his hands quickly. He doesn't have any understanding of setting up shots, using feints, etc.... He is a good physical fighter, but doesn't really have craft.
My 5 yr old plays Wiii boxing.
When he first started he would just throw as many punches as he could until his arms got tired (punched himself out like Angulo in round 1 vs Kirkland).
Now he has learned that he can't do that against better fighters. So he just throws 4-5 fast punches, then puts his hands up and moves, and then he'll throw 3-4 punches again. He doesn't really know what he is doing except that he can throw fast punches and then move.
When I watch my son do Wii boxing, I really do think of Alexander.

i think thats a perfect assessment of alexander. he is very quick and has a good punch, but he only has a plan A.captainanddew wrote:UBeeg9cats wrote:Devon KO3...just kidding.
