Re: Chavez Jr. Tests Positive for Marijuana
Well that will be at least a 6 month suspension. I personally don't know what to think about pot. I know its bad for you but so is drinking.
Re: Chavez Jr. Tests Positive for Marijuana
It shouldn't be a huge deal, as I can't really see it giving Jr. an advantage. That being said, he's already violated commission rules once before and should probably be suspended for a year. He knew the rules, he just didn't give a shit. I think it speaks voulmes about his discipline/comittment, with this coming on the heels of his DUI.

from fat dan's article on it
"The commission let (Top Rank's Carl) Moretti know (Tuesday) night that he tested positive," Arum said. "I can't really get excited about it. There's no promoter in boxing who could pass the marijuana test, including myself.
Now we know why the promotional companies seem like they are run by morons, ALL OF THEM ARE HIGH!!!

Yep I defend him a lot but this one shows a lack of discipline like you said.NJBeatdown86 wrote:It shouldn't be a huge deal, as I can't really see it giving Jr. an advantage. Jr is a disgrace between fights. He has enough talent to operate a shade under the world level for his prime. Combine that with a ravenous fan base and he should have a long and wealthy career. He is doing his best to screw that up.

weed i dont believe is a ped.why a banned substance maybe because its a illegal drug.one of tysons kos was changed to a no contest because he tested for weed.i think it may of been the golota fight.basicaly his track record of stuff like this is loaded with stupidity and or a dont care attitude.this will serve as suspention number two.how long i dont know but 6 months i guess especialy if it was a first offense.its not and its number 2 in nevada so i wont be surprized if its a year..dont worry texas will say its ok to fight there.
that and mexico would be a safe haven for him to fight.as far as presenting a good or improving image jr shows hes a jerk.no praise for martinez who kicked his ass.no apology to anyone for his performance which even arum called pathetic.im wondering what the wbc will do if anything.probably nothing or a 30 day to 90 day suspension knowing well he wont fight in that time frame..screw this cocky arragant spoiled punk.

don't worry. The WBC will mandate that Martinez has to face Chavez Jr. in a rematch. Sulaiman will take care of his godson.

I'd be rather happy if a rematch is out.
I'd rather see Martinez face Canelo, Cotto, or Mayweather.
Of course when all 3 don't want the fight, Sergio won't have an opponent that will allow him the huge payday.
shit, please only suspend him for 6 months.

Marijuana may not be a hard drug or enhance anything for an athelete or even be bad for them, but it's still illegal. This test just shows how irresponsible he is. It was probably the reason he skipped out on the two passed drug tests in Texas.

that costs sergio alot of money if all he gets is an hbo fight. at 37 or 38 with little time left, I'd like sergio to make as much as he can. chavez jr. is the only one that will bring him the HUGE payday that will actually fight him.
I get the feeling the only one with enough guts to take on Martinez (amongst the other 3 I named-floyd, cotto, or canelo) is Cotto. But Cotto could lose to Trout. And I'm not sure I want to see martinez beat him up.

Since all 3 of the posts I wanted to respond to were from capt, I combined them into a frankenstein post
First response is that Jr is just playing by modern rules. If he can cut that much and doesn't care about the damage it does to your body, he isn't doing anything wrong. Also, I predicted in another thread that I think he can fit in nicely with the 2nd or maybe what other people would call the 3rd tier of supermiddleweights. I honestly don't foresee Pavlik, Abraham, Stieglitz, or a similarly ranked fighter whipping him.
Second response is I agree none of those guys are likely to fight him. I'd love to see Floyd test his greatness but he would be facing a P4P beast that outweighs him by a division. I have no problem with Floyd saying no. Canelo SHOULD fight Sergio if he can. He will get an old Martinez coming off injury, having to cut for the first time in years, and can do it on Cinco de Mayo. He can one up Chavez and avenge Mexico. Downside is he would need a southpaw warm up and Lara is about the only guy available. Lara is no warm up. Maybe Robert Guerrero but that helps to negatively reinforce his reputation. Cotto would fight him but better make it 155 at most.
Third response is I am predicting a Trout win and I don't want to see Cotto get destroyed either if he does beat Trout. Cotto is a true warrior and does not need to do that fight at the end of his career.

Bum Jr is a disgrace on many levels. How people can even think about defending this guy is beyond me?
Here is a guy who doesn't train, when he does train he gets sloppy drunk and gets a DUI, then for the biggest fight of his life...he's getting high during camp. Unbelievable. Add to this that he's nothing more than a rudamentary, overrated brawler, who is living off of his Father's name, and there you have it.
Please DON'T suspend this guy, that's what he wants, an excuse to be lazy and take all of the time he can off between fights. Make him fight some legit opponents ASAP, and let him take the beatings that He, HBO, and Arum have been allowing him to avoid for 47 fights....

i agree that i want him to take on top level fighters just to see him lose. have him move up to 168 and fight kessler. then after that, let him have a turn at froch. then to top it off, put him in against ward. after those 3 fights, he will leave boxing and never return.hillsicc303 wrote:Bum Jr is a disgrace on many levels. You guys make me defend this guy over and over again which I don't really even like the dude. Anyways, who is overrating Jr? I have not seen one opinion of him being anything more than a one dimensional brawler that fights guys 10 lbs less than him where he takes advantage of his chin and physicality. I keep reading the opinion that he doesn't fight top guys but he just fought Sergio "lineal champ and P4P elite" Martinez. I don't know these top middleweights he has avoided. Out of the top 10, Sturm doesn't leave Germany, Golovkin just now became known, Pirog has been injured/fighting in Russia, Macklin has been busy with Sergio and Sturm, N'Jikam has avoided everyone, and Proksa has been busy. He could've fought Geale, Murray, and Quillin. Murray was signed but couldn't get a passport. Quillin trains with him and is also unlikely. I can give you Geale.
I don't know if it is because I rarely hate people but I don't understand why fans want to see mismatches to see guys get beatdown. I want to see competitive fight preferably with action and skill. Match him against Pavlik at the Las Vegas Rehab Center and you get action and competitiveness. I don't want to see someone walk through punches for 4 or 5 rounds to get (T)KO in a middle round in an uncompetitive fight.
Now since I have defended a lazy cheat for like the 50th time, I need to go throw up.

Re: Chavez Jr. Tests Positive for Marijuana
i only said that because im tired of his total lack of commitment to boxing. for example, i may totally disagree and hate the things that mayweather does outside the ring, but when he trains for a fight, he is always in 100% top shape and takes it seriously. i can at least respect that from him. i respect that chavez doesnt fall down during a fight, but i cant ever root for a guy that is so non-dedicated to the sport. same reason why i hate these fat HWs.UBeeg9cats wrote:powerpuncher wrote:i agree that i want him to take on top level fighters just to see him lose. have him move up to 168 and fight kessler. then after that, let him have a turn at froch. then to top it off, put him in against ward. after those 3 fights, he will leave boxing and never return.hillsicc303 wrote:Bum Jr is a disgrace on many levels. Re: Chavez Jr. Tests Positive for Marijuana
I never thought much of Julio Jr. as a fighter, however I was impressed with his heart the other night.
As far as the pot smoking charge, that's a relatively harmless drug with little or no hang over effects. I know people who smoke that stuff every day and lead productive lives. I can't be a hypocrite and slander Julio for doing that. I wouldn't advise it to an athlete in training, but it doesn't have the potential to be a PED. Sure it's illegal. Hell, it's illegal to get a blowjob in some states, however I doubt anyone would get fined for that.
If pot is his biggest problem, Julio Sr. has little to worry about.

Who cares if the drug is harmless or not? Yeah...you may go home, smoke some weed, then sit on the couch and eat doritos everyday, it's not big deal to you. But for some high level athlete(I use that phrase loosely with Bum Jr), who is supposed to be in the best shape he can be in, every time out, it is a big deal.
It just shows his total lack of dedication, and his utter disrespect for the sport. He pops for PEDs in 2009, he is dead-dog lazy, he gets busted for a DUI during training, and now, in the biggest fight of his life...he's smoking weed during training. And all of this for a guy who's skills in the ring are nothing more than a rudamentary brawler. I'd respect him a ton more if he had his limited skills, but worked his ass off in the gym, and was doing everything possible to improve. But he just acts like the spoiled brat that he is: Living off of Daddy's name, and riding the heavily manipulated HBO/Top Rank gravy train to a bloated 47-0 record before this past Saturday. IMO...he symbolizes so much of what is wrong with the sport today.
And obviously weed is not his only problem, it's just one of many for Bum Jr...

Re: Chavez Jr. Tests Positive for Marijuana
Now I can't speak on the DUI and his overall commitment. However I don't think you can say smoking weed= not committed. It's not something that would prevent him from being in shape. Hell Nick Diaz is a pothead and regularly competes in triathlons. He isn't the only triathlete smoking weed either. It's not something that is going to effect your cardio or prevent you from being in elite physical shape. Now this guy may be a lazy bum who lacks dedication, but can't blame that on the weed. That's on the individual.hillsicc303 wrote:I never thought much of Julio Jr. as a fighter, however I was impressed with his heart the other night.

The weed is just a part of his overall lack of dedication. I could care less if he smokes weed, but you mean to tell me that he can't put the greenery down for 8 weeks? He can't lay of the weed, the sauce, and who knows what else he's doing, to train hard and clean for the biggest fight of his life?
And anything that puts smoke into your lungs, will affect your cardio, where did you hear otherwise? Now you can still be in great shape and smoke weed, cigarettes, do drugs or whatever, but it is detrimental, and will catch up to you eventually. Now I've played with guys who smoked and smoked a lot, but they were that rare person who could basically do anything harmful to their bodies, and still go out there and perform at a VERY high level. But most guys, it does effect them, especially if their doing something like drugs and alcohol heavily.
But as we all know, Bum Jr is NOT one of those guys. Somebody like him shouldn't be doing anything but training his ass off, and trying to get better. Yeah...guys like Oscar, Chavez Sr, Whitaker, Pryor, SRL, etc, etc, etc...could do drugs, fuck around during camp, and still perform at a high level. Not saying it was any better than Bum Jr doing it, but they were supremely talented, and delivered when it counted, so much of that was overlooked.
