martinez broke his hand in the forth round according to sergio.the tear in the knee according to dibella may of occured during the knockdown.the swelling is large and it will sideline martinez for a few month of activity.both promoters ugh are talking rematch.my guess is the ppv early results showed great and its money.thats the reason for a unwarranted rematch and ill bet sergio this time gets to split 50-50..perhaps a good 6-8 or more million dollar payday for both.

I hope its not the next fight though. Let these guys have at least one fight in between.

Looks like Martinez won't be back until next year. Those are some bad injuries. Chavez should try to fight Geale next or take some kind of tune up, however im not sure how long his face is going to take to heal because Martinez made him look like the retard from the Goonies after the fight.

He looked like that before the fight. Former UFC champ Tim Sylvia is actually a dead ringer for Sloth.

That's right after a shower, I'm sure he looks horrible today. Swelling usually gets worse the second day.

the only way im taking this rematch if im sergio is if i get the bigger cut. i would say at least 55-45 this time. he would then make a few more million and then retire win or lose.

sergio's best money options are:

rematch
agree to go to 154 and pray that Canelo, Cotto, or Mayweather would take the fight for next Spring.

id love to see the alvarez fight.sergio should NOT go down to 154.its not needed.hold firm and the fight can be made at 160..alvarez is a better fighter then chavez has youth big time over both and is a natural real middleweight.so is martinez now.a 50-50 split is fair for martinez is now well known amoung not only the mexican boxing fans but to the mexicans in general after dominating chavez.
martinez needs surgery on the knee.it will keep him from his activity of riding his bike to keep the legs in shape.how many advantages do we want to give alvarez..martinez has proven his williness to do what it takes to make a fight but he cannot make 154 without suffering in performance dispite what he says.
to me only the 154 division is a phoney not needed division.your a middle.in my mind asking to fight at 154 is a catchweight that almost everyone here is against.sergio isnt young.an example is robinson who fought a lot at 154-155 as a middle contender and champ when younger.hell he was a few onces over 157 when he fought maxim for the light heavy title.now fast foward that a few years and robinson at age 38 for a few years fought at 159-160.does anyone actualy believe robby could fight at 154 without hurting his performance.theres no reason to not fight at 160..none unless we want to give alvarez a major advantage which all here bitch about that hes had for a while.forget the phoney divisions every 3 or 4 pounds.when a fighter moves up in class its usualy i cant make the weight anymore is the reason without hurting his performance.thoses 6 pounds at this stage of sergios career make a big differnce.

I agree that Sergio should try his best to not be weight compromised the rest of his career if he can help it. The problem is, the most lucrative fights for Maravilla- Floyd and Pac, who have shown NO inclination to want to get anywhere near the Argentinian- would require him to go down to at least 154, something Sergio himself has already said he'd be willing to do. So if you are Kid Cinnamon, and you know you are the next biggest moneybelt after those two (Miguel Cotto notwithstanding, who also would warrant Sergio at 154) why wouldn't you demand Maravilla come down?

Martinez will be out till May of next year just in time for a BIG money fight in a rematch or if GBP sweeps in and have him face Canelo on Cinco de Mayo weekend to steal away the PPV market. Unless TR plan on having Pac fight that weekend against Mayweather, Sergio and Lou can be in the driver seat in negotiations pitting GBP vs TR to have their Mexican fighter fight Sergio that weekend. With the knee injuring and age SM should be looking out for himself and make that $$$! And please no Ward talk for Sergio either would make no sense money wise or career wise to go up to 168lb or a catch weight and fight Ward.

because cotto is an easier fight at 154, and it pays more.

if he wants a very difficult fight then he takes the floyd fight, as it pays more.

if he doesn't get those two, his team will continue to match him with very winnable and not risky fights. And when hardcore fans like us or boxing writers complain, they'll just keep saying he's only 22 (or 23 when he turns 23).
