Russell Mora strikes again
The Miguel Beltran and Rocky Martinez fight would have been scored a draw had Russell Mora not felt the need to impose his authority in a close, competitive match.
Yes, Beltran was warned, but the "punch" that he used to penalize him with was nothing. This was in the 11th round, a round in which Beltran won.
For those of you that do not remember, Mora was the ref in the Abner Mares vs. Joseph Agbeko fight (the first fight).
I feel like he is getting away with murder from last night due to the other exciting fights.

I was watching the fight and that point deduction was a little iffy to me.

Re: Russell Mora strikes again
in the gonzalez/ponce de leon fight, kenny bayless took a point from each as each guy was hitting on the break and very late after the bell. Then after they did that, soto karass threw a late shot after the bell, maidana waited about half a second and threw a right hand (even later after the bell).
Bayless was between the two guys and didn't take any more points or DQ anyone. The wrong ref would have DQ'd one of these guys, but he didn't.
Of course, I think Bayless stopped the fight a couple of punches too soon, but that is a judgment call with the safety of the fighter coming first.
Mora is horrible. Always will be. I don't get why he continues to get work on high profile cards. Oh wait, I understand why. Being a boxing judge or boxing referee is like becoming a member of an exclusive club. Very hard to get in, but after you are in, they don't often kick those people out.

i find it hillarious that you'd bring up mora and not the judge that had beltran winning 117-111 WITH A POINT DEDUCTION. Draw my culo even without that point deduction.Shaun wrote:The Miguel Beltran and Rocky Martinez fight would have been scored a draw had Russell Mora not felt the need to impose his authority in a close, competitive match.

if I run into him, I'll have my 5 yr old with the sick right foot, kick him in the nuts.

bayless is a good ref. one of the few. its tough to ref a fight like maidana-karass when it starts to get out of control. i think that he did well though.captainanddew wrote:in the gonzalez/ponce de leon fight, kenny bayless took a point from each as each guy was hitting on the break and very late after the bell. Re: Russell Mora strikes again
I don't like Mora specifically but I am one of the few people that believe the same infraction is a foul at the end of a fight/game even if it "decides" the fight. Does it suck a weak rabbit punch that either didn't land or grazed decided the fight? Of course it does. Putting myself in Beltran's shoes, I would hit him with a harder rabbit punch if the weaker one wasn't a foul. The rule is in there to protect the fighter. I hate a foul at the end of a basketball game too but you can't give one person/team an advantage by not calling what is technically a foul either.
