Hatton comeback? WTF?
Ricky Hatton due for comeback
Updated: September 12, 2012, 9:06 AM ET
Associated Press
LONDON -- Former light-welterweight champion Ricky Hatton is set to come out of retirement after three years, having called a news conference to make a "major announcement" on Friday.
Rafael on Hatton's Return
It shouldn't come as a surprise that Ricky Hatton will return to boxing as he has stayed close to the sport since announcing his retirement, Dan Rafael writes. Blog
The 33-year-old Briton has not fought since a second-round knockout by Manny Pacquiao in 2009.
Hatton has previously described how he slipped into depression and considered suicide while trying to come to grips with the loss.
Hatton established his own promotions company, but it ran into problems in May when he lost his television deal with British broadcaster BSkyB.
Now Hatton is being prepped to eventually fight Paulie Malignaggi if the comeback succeeds. Hatton beat Malignaggi in 2008.

I'm fine with it. Paulie vs. Hatton will be a huge fight in England and will get a lot of viewers here in America. Also, Paulie is a light puncher so there isn't a health concern. Should be a nice competitive fight.

I think it has more to do with him losing a TV deal for his promotional company. By him fighting, he kind of carries his promotion on his back and is able to sign another big deal for his company.
Also, I bet he has the desire to fight.
He should go for it.

I can see that I guess. But really I can only see this being bad for the guy. Either way I am cool with it I have never really liked Hatton that much.Shaun wrote:Soonermark890 wrote:I wonder if he is hurting for money?

if he wants a relatively easy tune up and then Paulie M, then fine. If he plans on actually fighting for more than that (which I'm sure he does), then this is a bad, bad, idea. 34 years old and a fighter that wasn't exactly known for craft. His physical abilities will not have gotten better from age 31 to 34. And they will continue to go downhill.

He won't be fighting Pacquiao, Cotto, or Mayweather.
He will be fighting Paulie. I could also see him fighting Bradley at some point.
EDIT: Actually, I could see him fighting Cotto... so I take that back.

I'm alright with it because I see Paulie being the best fighter he fights in the comeback. I can see him fight a mid-level British talent and then a legit Brit before going after Paulie. Paulie will outbox him in all likelihood and that will be the end of it. He is coming back to get a deal for his promotional company. Of course, he can make a big fight with Pac, Money, or Cotto with a Paulie win. He could even fight a Brook, Khan, Bradley, or Alexander(my choice) for a lower level fight after the Paulie clash. A Hatton/Brook or Khan unification is a huge fight.

Cotto will fold him like a lawn chair.Shaun wrote:captainanddew wrote:if he wants a relatively easy tune up and then Paulie M, then fine. they won't jump right to someone like Paulie right off the bat. It will have been almost 3.5 yrs by the time he fights. they will want someone easier to fight in the first fight. Paulie probably is the goal for the 2nd fight next spring.

bottom line,i think, even if fatton is only 1/2 what he was, paulie isn't the type to cause long term damage.at worst will be death by a thousand cuts & the money will be good.
